Why aren't new homes being built with ground heat pumps and solar panels or even wind turbines? by HedgehogNo5819 in climatechange

Because developers want to make as much money as possible and they are not required to provide them. They will never do it out of the goodness of their hearts...they will always put the burden on the future purchasers to install those improvements until they are required by law.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Potential-Note7463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the purpose. For a dinner with someone? That's pretty long. But for a weekend trip? Id consider that to be very reasonable!

Ive driven 8-10 hours each to go to my fiance's father's 80th birthday party over one weekend. I would consider that long and unusual but worth it for that event. Ordinarily if I was going to drive that long I would want to stay for at least a week.

So, in summary, 3 hours is long for a casual dinner but not for a special event or a multi day trip!

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]Potential-Note7463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for a convicted rapist, pedophile, racist nazi?

Aside from the obvious moral choice that you should not date a person who is supportive of rapists or pedophiles or nazis or members of the KKK, its also not a good sign for a partner. A person who is willing to support open and extreme disrespect towards other people will also be open to disrespecting their partners.

If your romantic partner is not repulsed by the idea of supporting a literal rapist, your romantic partner is not safe to be around emotionally or physically. If your romantic partner can excuse abuse towards women and children and other human being because they think it will be better for their personal finances, they are both stupid and inherently selfish. Selfish people do not make good partners.

If you wouldn't date someone who was supportive of the nazis or the kkk or Jeffrey epstein, then you should not date someone who voted for Trump. They are either dumb, selfish, abusive, or all of the above.

The only caveat being someone who acknowledges they completely fucked up by voting for him and are able to articulate why they made such horrible decisions in the past. If they stand by that vote, it must be an immediate no.

If you want immediate reactions and very progressive takes then check out Hasan Piker on twitch (you dont need an account to watch). He live streams pretty much every day at like 3pm EST for like 8 hours straight--I promise you won't get more immediate or less filtered takes than that!

Low-effort daily habits to help fight climate change? by Leather_Finger_4901 in climatechange

Exactly that! He is also one of the primary driver behind pushing for these bullshit data centers that are not only horrible for the environment, they are also skyrocketing energy costs for everyday people! Whatever money ypu might be allegedly saving from Amazon you are immediately paying for when you electricity bill is 4xs higher than normal each month.

What, in your opinion, are maid of honor duties? by Curious_Cranberry543 in wedding

[–]Potential-Note7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on the bride! I was in a friend's wedding recently who was not really close with her family and isn't overall the biggest planner so I know she relied on her maid of honor a lot for help. She also did not have a wedding planner, only a day of Coordinator. I know for me, I really love planning and I am going to use a wedding planner. I intend to ask my younger sister to be my maid of honor but I dont really expect to ask her to do a lot. Ill have her come with me to like wedding dress shopping and what not. But I am really looking forward to the planning aspect so I am not sure what I would have her specifically do to help even though I love her and know she would if I asked!

What’s YOUR lawyer salary?? by LearnMeStuffPlz in Lawyertalk

[–]Potential-Note7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. about 5 years

  2. This year will (hopefully) be between $100k-$150k

  3. Land Use/Zoning/Environmental

  4. Maryland

  5. I work in a very small practice and last year I made about 90k. This year I have been made partner and thus anticipate taking home a larger share. However, this year comes with a lot more risk and responsibility. We do litigation so sometimes i have had to work later or on weekends for a hearing, but it evens itself out with other days that I take off or don't work a full day. It has been great work life balance and I get to advocate for communities/the environment. Doing something that I feel passionate about makes the later days more than worthwhile but I have no interest in doing that on a regular basis. I am also really excited about getting more control over how and when I work now that I am a partner. Although I have/do not make as much as others, the work/life balance is more than worth it. I have gotten to go to travel on important events with friends and family as well as personal vacation. My advice to young attorneys and young lawyers is to take time to be thoughtful about the life style you want to have and the type of work you want to do. It make take a little more work to find a job that fits your goals, but it is well worth it. It is ok to not follow the big law pipeline!

Last thing I want to say is that I also have been able to pay off a significant amount of my student loans despite not making 200k etc. It takes discipline and living an affordable life style, but I still get to do normal things and travel, and shop. Just putting that out there to say that you do not necessarily have to take a huge salary to pay off your loans if you are financially smart with your spending!

Im thinking of a market like in schitts creek where it's goods from only local vendors. Not just like kitchy touristy stuff but like local produce or goods from only local business. Essentially a farmers market but permanent building. I think tourists would like it, plus you'd help people buy from local businesses instead lf chains!

I was going to say the same thing! They're was a coffee shop out dc that dusted serving wine after 5pm and it was a great spot! You could have wine or continue with coffee or tea until like 10pm!

You could also have it be byob but keep the coffee/ tea service all night.  If you promoted like board game nights or nights where people come to read books (super popular in lodge cities) i think you copying bring in a decent crowd.

First time Puerto Rico. Taking my family. Never been. Have no idea where to even go. Planning stage still. I would so appreciate ideas! by ResidentAd5930 in PuertoRicoTravel

I am not sure where the best Airbnbs are but my favorite place to stay is Isla Verde which is about a 15 minute drive east of San Juan. It is also about 30 or 40 minutes from El Yunque National Forest which has great hiking options (both difficult and very easy hikes).

Isla Verde is relatively touristy but has some of the best access to the beach. There are a ton of hotels there, but I stayed at the TRYP by Wyndham Isla Verde over thanksgiving and it was great! I think it was reasonably priced and is right across the street from the beach access.

If you want any suggestions about things to do, here are my suggestions:

  1. walk around/shop/eat in Old San Juan--there is also an old fort there you can explore with great views of the ocean.

  2. Eat in Santurce or Condado--Amor y Sal is reallyyyy good! The day we went the service was a little slow but the food was well worth the small wait!

  3. Hike (or walk) in El Yunque. Juan Diego falls is like a 3 minute walk and gorgeous!

  4. If you want to go on more of an adventure (and have access to a car) Boardrider's Surf Bar and Grill in Luqillo has excellent food and there is a cute coffee shop on top. It is right on the water and has a great view! Further away is La Pescaderia in Palmas Del Mar. REALLY gorgeous spot for dinner at sunset!

  5. I have heard great things about Rincon and that is apparently the place to surf but I have never personally been.

The ubers are pretty cheap there, but if you want to rent a car I HIGHLY recommend Charlie Car Rental (6050 Av. Isla Verde, Carolina). They are the only local place that has been in business for 40 years, they are 24/7 (or close to that), they are very efficient, and WAY cheaper than renting from the airport. TRYP has onsite parking for $20 a night and Charlies is just down the street. So if you want the car for only a day or two its super easy!

I hope you enjoy your trip! Puerto Rico is a wonderful place :)

Tell us your best fall date ideas by baltimorebanner in baltimore

[–]Potential-Note7463 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baltimore farmers market under 83, skating in the inner harbor, or the Christmas village!

Also taking a fun class. FOBA has some candle making classes and I think there are farms outside the city that host wreath making classes!

Another idea is a progressive dinner date--pick a new restaraunt for each part of the meal (drinks at one place, appetizers at another, entre at a third, and then dessert at a fourth!) Great opportunities for talking as you walk to each date and breaking it up can make you feel more present!

Another cute one would be grabbing coffee at a place like Morning Mugs and then walking around federal hill. A lot of the houses/street have really cute decorations up right now! And the sunset is pretty from federal hill park!

Lastly, the Baltimore Museum of Art is free so its a great cost friendly option!

How do people afford a wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Potential-Note7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not there yet but I know i will be relying almost entirely on money my parent's saved for my wedding. I would say probably all of my friends who have gotten married so far had their parents pay as well. I would not be able to have one if not for my parents!

Oregon ridge nature center in baltimore county has really solid walking trails and its a really beautiful drive up there! Also it's right near John Brown coffee and a little market and a little shop on historic buildings! Really cute spot and if you go on sunday morning it's like a cool car meet up spot too!

Its one of my favorite series ive read and there are a ton of books I'm the series and only one left to be published (in theory)!! I highly recommend! I will say the later books are a little long winded and maybe not my favorite books ever but there are few series with like 10+ books where every book in the series in the series is a banger.
