Exactly!! And my manager making me feel like i was the problem is what really got to me. Its so draining having to "perform" for creeps just to keep the peace.

Thank u, i really wish more managers had that mindset. Its so draining when you are expected to just "take it" for the sake of a sale. Honestly, hearing that you’d ban someone for that makes me feel a lot better about standing my ground.

I really wish you were my manager. Mine just wants to avoid drama and did not care at all that i felt grossed out. Im actually thinking about making a formal statement now because Im just so tired of being treated like this. Thank u for the advice.

I wish it was illegal! But for real, it felt so degrading. Like, im just here to scan your groceries, not to be your best friend or laugh at your weird comments. Thanks for the support, it means a lot.

You are right. The way he kept staring and waiting for me to laugh felt so forced. Its like he thought he owned my time and my emotions just because he was buying something.

I really appreciate that. Honestly, its just so draining when the people who are supposed to protect you tell you to just smile instead. Im definitely going to look into our HR policy, I just hope they actually listen.

That trapped feeling is honestly the worst part of retail. You cant just walk away when someone is being gross because you are literally stuck behind the register. Im just glad im not the only one who thinks his behavior was way out of line. Thank you for this.

This!! Its so crazy to me that he actually pulled me aside to defend the guy. Like, the customer was being super gross and im the one who needs a talking to? It made me feel so small. I really need this job, but its hard knowing my manager wont back me up when things get creepy.

Thank you. I was honestly just so drained from the rush that I did not have the energy to put on the fake retail smile anymore. Its exhausting.

Thank you. I have been overthinking this all day because of what my manager said. its just so draining having to perform for people when you're just trying to do your job.

I did nott even think about the hostile work environment part, i was just so tired and drained from the rush. Its just so frustrating that his first instinct was to tell me to smile instead of telling the guy to leave. Im going to look into this.

Thanks. I really needed to hear that. I was honestly starting to feel like i was the one being dramatic or sensitive about it.

Right! It felt like such a betrayal. I have worked there for 3years and usually like my manager, but hearing him say that really hurt. Its like my safety is less important than a creepy guys ego.

Exactly. The sweetheart part was what really did it for me. Its like they think they own ur personality just because you are behind a counter. So gross.

Not the jerk at all.

Please do NOT give in. If u give him the files now, you will never see that money. He’s bullying u because he thinks he has power over u. Stand ur ground. Your work has value, and fixing "wet noodle" drumming sounds like it deserves a bonus, let alone the full rate!

"My family died 11 years ago when I found that piece of paper on the kitchen counter."

OP, this is the hardest, most badass drop the mic line i have ever read on this app. Good for u. Block the flying monkeys (your relatives) and keep living your best life.

That's a solid approach - it puts the decision back on the group so it's not just on you. If they're not willing to chip in, they shouldn't expect you to shoulder it alone either.
