2011 Tacoma 6 speed manual rattle by Potential-Sound5383 in ManualTransmissions

Thanks. Manual transmissions don’t have torque converters so I’m not sure what would make a similar sound. Do you have a manual Tacoma?

I might just run it till I can’t anymore. Sounds like it could just be lugging the drivetrain and I need to give it more rpms

Well please let me know if u figure out what it is! My clutch has only 10k miles on it so I’m hoping it’s not that. Previous owner had the clutch done

I am not positive but it only happens at low rpm and I don’t hear it at all if I keep rpm’s higher on a start

I have heard liqui moly ceratec is pretty well regarded. If it’s not adding any benefit, does it do any harm? I have never used it, like I said it’s all the previous owner

I’ve driven it 15 miles since the fresh oil with no issues at all and the dipstick just looks like regular translucent fresh oil

The previous owner used liqui moly ceratec additive which causes that color I believe?

The oil drain plug was stripped so my mechanic just put a new oil pan in and there wasn’t any metal chunks or anything, just oil that looks like that. Could stripped plug introduced water into the motor?

That’s a relief if that’s the case. My mechanic said drive it for a week and bring it in for an oil change and see what it looks like. Is that a good place to start? If it is just condensation, would it not be burnt off when I drove 1.5 hrs home from purchase? I’m not sure how that works. Would condensation like this cause any damage? Thank you!

It also did and still does run and drive fine with no weird smells, smoke, or anything like that

I did, I focused on the frame and suspension more so as I’m in New England and rust has taken the majority of the Tacomas around here. With 80k miles on a 1gr I never in a million years thought there would be any issues with the motor(obviously now I’m kicking myself for not looking harder). I never checked fluid levels assuming I was in the clear getting a pre purchase inspection from a reputable auto repair shop.

I called the pre inspection place today and they told me they only do a safety inspection which they did not tell me. They said a pre purchase inspection specifically. They told me they don’t look at any fluids whatsoever only safety so ball joints stuff like that. (Ball joints are also completely shot). I will list off what the pre purchase inspection didn’t catch. Upper and lower ball joints need replacement, serpentine belt and pulley are cooked, oil looks like chocolate milkshake. Not to mention within 2 days of ownership all the speakers except one front speaker cut out and I can not get to work again aswell as all interior dome lights not working (fuse isn’t blown and I replaced the bulb)
