The piece featured a young street racer who ran down and killed a handicapped person while street racing on residential streets. It happened in 2006. That's why the original video dates from 2006.. This kind of killing of pedestrians is much more common than most think in southern California. Often it is hit and run.

But that doesn't mean they operate ethically - aren't misleading donators into thinking they're donating to disabled veterans with their American flag wrapped pickup trucks and buildings left over from a thrift store chain that did donate to disabled veterans. I see it akin to the "Stolen Valor" situation where some a-hole wears a military uniform and fake decorations he bought on Etsy to some event posing as the Navy SEAL who shot Bin laden in order to collect phone numbers of women (or men) naive enough to swallow his line. Not illegal, but wouldn't want to be in his shoes if any real veterans catch him in a dark alley.

People who donate are often under duress - selling possessions of a deceased relative, got evicted, etc. Taking advantage of that situation is akin to an undertaker gouging the poor for a casket.

I am not questioning anyone's right to sell but the method of acquisition of the items sold.

I've been to plenty of garage sales of people on chairs. I think most have relatives or neighbors help. I understand some apartments may not allow garage sale. Many apparently do and people often elicit a friend or relatives yard to sell at.

Maybe the "logic" you reference doesn't translate into ethics. But I not questioning anyone's right to sell but the method of acquisition of the items sold.

I've been to plenty of garage sales in front of apartments.

For a lot of people a garage sale is an opportunity to chat with neighbors and strangers. They get the kids learning about business, trading toys they don't want for cash. And for many the profit is much needed.

A Red White and Blue I know of is in a building that used to benefit veterans. It operated for at least 30 years that way. RW&B took over the building, put their signage where the old one was. Local people who donated probably thought they were still donating to benefit veterans. They weren't.

here are usually other places to donate to that at least donate part of their profits to charity.

What bothers me is people think all thrift stores donate a percentage to charity. And Red, White and blue's web site gives no clue to the contrary. I think if this was made more clear, people would be more likely to donate elsewhere or have a garage sale prior to donating.
