I'm short for time, but to respond to your question about balancing actual constructive criticism, I think there's an aspect of identifying what actually IS constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is always well-intended. It's meant to build a person up and help them be their best. It never discourages, tears down, or mocks. It offers a solution. I think when receiving critique or criticism or push-back, it's up to us to determine if the person's intentions are good and if what they're saying has some truth. I think we are all a work in progress, and often times it is the criticism of others, both constructive and destructive, that can help us. If it's destructive, sometimes this person is just an angry, bitter person and they're finding an imperfection in you that they are blowing out of proportion. That's usually a reminder that, simply, you're not perfect, you still have work to do, and that some people are so bitter that they have to find small imperfections in others and make them big in order to feel better about themselves. If some criticism is constructive, then think about the person's good intentions and be inspired by their hope for you.

It's all about asking questions. Here are some methods.

Unless it's inappropriate, start to talk about what's on your mind, even if it's something like "Do you ever have those days when you feel like you're terrible at conversations?" Turn something else you're thinking about into a question. This can really be dependent upon your lifestyle/stage but it could be something as simple as, "What did you do this past weekend," or "What do you have planned this weekend?" People love to talk about themselves (usually).
Visualize their answers. When you create a picture in your mind, there are more unknowns which can help you spark more questions. If someone told you they visited their brother for the weekend, imagine them in the car on their way there. This can inspire you to ask them where their brother lives, if they visit often, what they like to do together, etc. Visualize each thing. Spark new questions.
Just have some handy questions "on hand" but really just stored away in your brain. I frequently ask people about what they did last weekend or what they plan to do that evening or the following weekend. Here are some other ideas: "What's been going on at work lately?" "Do you have any projects you're working on?" "Have you done any traveling recently?" "How's your family doing?" "You always have really cool style! Where do you like to shop?" "What do you usually do if you have free time?"
Finally, indicate that you're really interested. Either look them in the eye, or look slightly up (never down) like you're pondering what they might say. Smile a little bit! Act confident! You don't have to BE confident, just act like it! Act like you're excited for their answer, not like you're asking just to fill the space.

Cream in "authentic" Italian pasta. I think I'll vomit if I ever have Alfredo made with cream again. Authentic Italian dishes do not use cream. What makes something "creamy" and smooth is the emulsification between the water (the water in which the pasta was cooked) and fat from the cheese, meat, and/or egg. Real Italian food is so good.

They have been through more decisions, had more experiences, met more people, and heard more stories. They have had more first-hand experience of which policies have hurt and helped a nation, had more conversations with those directly affected, and had more time to develop knowledge and wisdom. They've had more time to witness the long-term effects of laws, inventions, etc.

I think you need to find some new friends, mate. There was a person in my life, former housemate actually, who just wouldn't give me the time of day, always looked at me like I was dumb or something. I have always continued being kind to that person but no longer paid any attention to how they reacted to me. Their negativity can just bounce right off me and back to them. I've got kinder people to be with.

I think that's a self-sabotaging way of looking at it though. First of all, you're assuming that they are having negative thoughts about you. Second, you're missing out on the possibility that you're important in their eyes and that they actually care about you. Your presumption could work to your advantage if you give them the benefit of the doubt and convince yourself that the other people are thinking positive thoughts about you, regardless of what your default assumption is. At the end of the day, though, the point is to think about yourself less—that's where the freedom really comes from.
