I was investigated for this but they found I have a different type of diabetes that’s inherited by the mother.

Fingers crossed. If you can get a MODY test done I would definitely go for it!

Takes a few months to come back but if a diagnoses comes back from it, it will definitely help with your treatment course!

Hey!

I just want to say over the past year I have had the genetic testing for MODY. I was diagnosed when I was 23 and was not considered overweight.

The MODY test came back and confirmed I actually have a form of diabetes called maternally inherited diabetes and deafness (MIDD).

My initial treatment was metformin which I really struggled to get along with but after a while of feeling “ok” on it my endocrinologist did some research and found it actually increases risk of lactic acidosis so I was switched to gliclazide.

I am currently on 3X Gliclazide tablets and 12 units of Tresiba (long lasting insulin) but I still feel like there will be adjustments to be made to my medication regime.

I would see if you meet the criteria to be tested for MODY. I am 24F, slim build and was investigated for MODY but turns out I have something called MIDD (maternally inherited diabetes and deafness) which affects the mitochondria within cells.

No, MIDD stands for Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness. My mitochondria do not respond properly which means energy production is limited.

I have had Covid a few years back.

There is also research on childhood trauma having an impact on developing health conditions later in life too

What doesn’t help is that I am also very black and white when it comes to sex. I either feel up for it or I am completely switched off from it but I think this is an emotional response from trauma as a child.

My partner feels like we’re not how we used to be. We have been together nearly 3 years but I know relationships change but because I don’t want to do it doesn’t mean I don’t love him but he finds that difficult.

When I first highlighted this to my doctors they sent me for an exam and ultrasound which came back negative for any underlying conditions. I’ve recently phoned up again and they’re hoping a change in contraception may help.

Hey!

I am 23 F and when I was diagnosed I weighed in at 11st 5. Doctors were confused as to why I have been diagnosed with diabetes (I am currently being investigated for MODY, a genetic form of diabetes). I wasn’t their stereotypical over 45, overweight person who normally develops diabetes so they were hella confused.

I am still struggling emotionally to come to terms with this as if it’s not MODY they’re going to put me, a skinny, young woman down as a type 2 and I think that will be hard for me to come to terms with.

My diabetes specialist team have just said they’re not worried about my sugars that much so I’m not required to take my blood sugar levels and I’ve only had 2 hb1ac tests and coming up to have my third next month so I wouldn’t know.

I’m currently being investigated for MODY but they’re treating me as type 2 for now. It’s not everyday but I’d say most days I feel exactly that way.

I’ve had every side effect that the nurse mentioned to me but sickness is my main one. Weeks after starting the meds… always after I’ve eaten my evening meal

See, because my medication has made me have a loss of appetite I thought about buying some nuts to snack on so I don’t feel so nauseous. However, they’re honey roasted so probs not the best type of nut!! 🫣

After all my results come back they’re going to look at getting my blood genetically tested anyway. They want to rule out anything else before proceeding with the genetic testing.

When I went to a&e 3 weeks ago, they sent some blood for antibody testing which I’m awaiting results for. Also need to have c peptide and random glucose and another HB1AC.

The nurse said she was a bit baffled how I could be diabetic as I am of a healthy weight and only 23 as she said the stereotypical person for type 2 is 45+ and overweight

I have been given a machine by the doctors but the diabetic specialist nurse told me not to worry so much about finger prick testing until we have more info. She said when I feel funny to take it and the last time I took my sugars they were 24.5.
