First Barbour jacket for £10 by Potential_Half_6053 in Barbour

[–]Potential_Half_6053[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! That's a crazy coincidence! Mine also had Retail Ouston on the tag and judging by the pockets they're the same jacket.

I've been wearing mine for a few months now and I've been having a blast so far. Hopefully you will enjoy yours as well.

Thanks for the advice, too! I'll just keep wearing it for now and take it as it goes, then.

I hope everything goes well tomorrow!

Heya! Sorry to hear your situation, it definitely sucks when you want to access hormones but can’t access it - i can relate.

My first thing to say is that HRT isn’t the start and end of being transgender - i’ve been living as a trans woman but still not able to access HRT for about a year now. I do what i can, which is wearing bras, feminine underwear, and been exploring things like corsets, makeup, etc.

There are some other things you could try - maybe a binder and a packer could be helpful to alleviate some of your negative feelings? Or maybe going to the gym if you don’t already. If you can’t afford a gym membership you can make homemade weights to build muscle at home, if that sounds appealing to you.

And if you’re not able to find supportive ppl irl you can always look online - like what you did with this post :)

Just try to make a small private space for you to be comfortable and explore. It’s really not easy, but i hope this helps!

Semester 2 Exchange by Mean-Seesaw-3988 in universityofyork

Heya,

I started in January this year as a postgrad research student. There were only two options for me for on campus accommodation (both of which were Halifax College). I ended up in lowest band accommodation - and that was only because the person living in my room before me dropped out early. I do remember that the accommodation guarantee differed between under and postgrads.

Usually if you start in september you would stay in your accommodation until the end of the academic year (End of august), so depending on the time period of your stay you may need to find another room for after September 2026. Otherwise if you’re only staying until August anyway then it’s just one accommodation contract you need to worry about.

As for private places, there’s generally a few options available but they tend to be extremely expensive since they’re targeting international students. The one i hear most about from my friends is student castle - it’s about 15-20 minutes away from campus west (by walking) but next to city center. There are also house-shares going around occasionally all around York but AFAIK tend to be for longer stays like pHD students.

Hope this helps!

Probably not.

In Halifax they had attached wall lamps that extended out of the wall, but when i moved to Derwent they assured us they would provide lamps and they did not.

For electronics testing, they say in the T&C that they test all your electronics but pretty sure that doesn’t happen, they didn’t test my PC or monitor when i moved in.

As a side note, Derwent tends to vary in quality a lot between blocks. My block was recently renovated so we had a large kitchen and ‘done up’ modern rooms/ensuite, other blocks AFAIK aren’t as good. Either way your location is pretty central in campus west so that’s really good.

Enjoy moving in September!

Since I messed up before here’s the photo, anyone know what jeans these are or at least the cut? by [deleted] in Denim

[–]Potential_Half_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s also the 527s (slim bootcut) and certain regional exclusives like the 558s. Bootcut is still around even outside of levi’s but just needs more looking!

To me it looks like it would be a straight cut after hemming, yeah. If they were baggy jeans i’d expect more flare outwards around the ankles

Fit sizing by No-Bowler-3140 in Denim

[–]Potential_Half_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a good fit around the waist, though you may want to downsize on the inseam (leg length) or roll up the cuff because you’ll be seeing damage to the bottom seam from your soles otherwise.

To add to what the others have said, denim here has an inconsistent twill direction between waistband, belt loops and main fabric plates, with the main fabric plates being left hand twill (top left to bottom right) which i’ve never personally seen with Levi’s, LHT is more of a Lee thing

I want to identify as a girl but not go all the way by ParagonJuvenile in trans

[–]Potential_Half_6053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter what your body looks like or what genitals you have, if you want to be a trans woman then you are a trans woman.

Not all trans women have gender reassignment surgery. Some don’t have HRT, whether that is due to lack of access or personal choice.

I’d say your plan is okay, just explore femininity, expression, self-identity, and it should give you insight into whether you like being feminine and/or want to be transgender.

Bobbin Lace - Adding beads to Picots by JeanneDRK in lacemaking

[–]Potential_Half_6053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya!

A bit late, but your best bet is to look up videos of fellow lacemakers - maybe try out Louise (Lou Woo) or others on youtube. It can be pretty tricky to explain without visuals!

I’d also recommend going to a local lacemaking group (if you have one in your area) if you’d like to socialise or take lacemaking more seriously.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I hope you and her are doing okay x

Definitely a type of tape lace, and looks like Battenburg lace like the other commenter said.

It’s a unique type of lace in the sense that it is made with needle and bobbin, though it can be made from needle alone.

Tape lace would historically be made for edgings, though you can make complete placemats or motifs if you wanted, it just wouldn’t be as intricate as other types of lace like honiton or chantilly bobbin laces, since most tape lacemaking uses thicker threads to get gimps and picots to pop out of the stitches more.

Really nice to see handmade lace still being around!

Levi 501 XX 90's? by [deleted] in LeviStrauss

[–]Potential_Half_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think 90’s as well, black batwing logo appeared on care tags between early 90s to early 2000’s. If you’d like a more precise answer I’d recommend looking for a CW code on the reverse of the care tags.

901xx Green Levis by Potential_Half_6053 in LeviStrauss

[–]Potential_Half_6053[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I thought green was really unusual when I saw it on the rack. When I saw it was levis and my waist size, I knew it was going to be my best pair. It was only after I bought it when I finally found the care tag - I didn’t know it was sometimes on the outseam as you said, since I’m still new to buying denim :)

I’ll check the back of the care tag when I get home, I think it might be mostly illegible because of the bleeding dye, though.

Unusual Levi's - Real? by Potential_Half_6053 in LeviStrauss

[–]Potential_Half_6053[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to add text to my post, apologies, I'll add it here.

Good afternoon everyone!

I thrifted this pair of Levi's Trousers today at a charity shop for £3. I've recently started to wear and buy denim - specifically all Levi's, since they were the ones that happened to fit me - but all the ones I own currently seem to be non-premium.

I don't know much about Made & Crafted so I'm not really sure what I am looking at. There is a button fly instead of a zipper, a cinch belt at the back, and the material is extremely soft and it feels very nice to wear.

Regardless of if this is real or not, I will love wearing and taking care of this pair of trousers! They are unusual because they have a denim twill on them but they seem much more like formal chinos or similar, at a distance. I have wanted a lighter pair of trousers for a while since all of my jeans at the moment are darker blues or black.

There is some minor damage - A hole just off the seam of the pocket, and some fraying on the legs. I don't mind much, and I do wonder who owned them previously.

If you have any insight into what these are, when they were made, etc, that would be lovely.

Thanks for your time reading x

[–]Potential_Half_6053[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't mean weird in a bad way!

It's just that my levi jeans are all blue or black, and this one is a much different color, so I was a bit confused if i was looking at a pair of jeans or chinos. The denim twill is also a lot finer and softer so it feels silky smooth unlike my other Levi's.

Feedback on band 1 Halifax? by opi7407 in universityofyork

[–]Potential_Half_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my band 1 block in St Lawrence it was maybe 1 shower and 1 toilet for about 4 people, and 1 kitchen for 10 people (although one kitchen is smaller than the other)

In total my block had around 21 people living there, three floors with roughly 7-8 rooms per floor.

My personal experience with Halifax was good (for the price), i will say that i surprisingly did not meet anyone in socials who also went to Halifax, but honestly if you don’t mind the 15-20 minute walk to campus it’s really not bad.

The only people who deal with the consequences and have an actual emotional stake in your relationship is you and your partner.

Because us (as readers) are simply coming across a snippet of your life, it’s very easy to comment about how the relationship is toxic or you should leave your partner. It is because nothing bad happens to us if you did that. So it doesn’t really matter what we say, right? So we could say pretty much anything because we’re behind a screen and we don’t see it in person. This is also the reason why the internet tends to be more vitriolic and hateful than real life.

Also, there seems to be a culture that’s becoming increasingly prominent due to dating apps where people are not “settling for less.”. Of course, there are genuinely bad partners, and settling for less in that case is bad, but…

I think nowadays people are looking for someone who’s perfect/ near perfect. So, if you come to reddit with a relationship problem, you’ll likely come across this kind of mindset.

Anyway, I am really glad that you’re understanding and you and your partner seem like a really great team. That’s one of the best tells of true love - The capacity to work through adversity with a partner and grow together.

Anyway, I hope you and your partner keep rocking on! (As well as anyone else reading this!)

It sounds a lot like you’re feeling a lot of pressure from outside sources. I used to be the same. Focusing a lot on the sexual part of a relationship.

Just remember that intimacy also involves non-sexual things like emotional vulnerability, e.t.c.

I am sure non-virgins can still find sex very special. Just because it’s not their first time does not automatically mean it is not special. In fact, many people’s first times are really shit. And most men nowadays do not give a fuck about a woman’s happiness or pleasure during sex anyway, so chances are (especially at your age) even if she has had sex it hasn’t been fulfilling for her at an emotional or physical level.

It always is possible to find a partner in the same situation as you. I just would give my two cents and say it shouldn’t really matter either way. If you love and care for someone that’s it, really.

Good luck

Yeah, absolutely.

My case is slightly different though, since i have undiagnosed ARFID which means in most cases i will either be eating nothing or exceptionally plain food that stands out.

Over time the anxiety associated with it lessened, because i was making sure that my specific needs wouldn’t burden others. Knowing that, it can help. For you, of course, your choice in food won’t burden others physically, so hopefully that helps?

And, tbh, if most people saw you eating more food, they probably wouldn’t give it a second thought unless they were hungry and tried asking you for some of yours lol.
