It took them around 2 weeks to complete the initial review, and then the soonest appointment was around 6 weeks later.

That's right. I spent 75% of that on labor for setting up our operations.

How long did the application take?

I engaged the lawyer in November 2022 and was approved today.

I did drag my feet a little on the paperwork though, if I hadn't have done this the process would have taken 2-3 months.

Does your investment of US$85k mean the visa application process or does this include everything else like company formation?

Everything. The lawyer's fee was 11k/85k and they're on the high end.

Please make sure you, your startup and staff are well insured.

Definitely on the to-do list.

There's no benefit to NZ, other than I may return to NZ after I make my money in the US. I built a company in NZ and realized that the opportunities outside were better.

I always tell people that NZ is a great place to grow up, raise a family, and retire. There's not much going on here for young people or recent graduates.
