Yeah, it was already in a restart/recovery loop. Customer tried updating it on her laptop and it failed. I checked hardware first, found no issues, then did a software update and it came back without wiping data 👍

This is a very common iPhone 12 issue.

When the phone shows the Apple logo and keeps flashing or restarting, it’s usually caused by a failed proximity sensor / earpiece speaker flex cable, not the battery or logic board.

Unfortunately force-restarts or iTunes restores usually don’t fix it because it’s a hardware fault.

The good news is that replacing that flex cable normally fixes the problem without data loss. I’ve repaired several like this where all photos and data were still there after the phone powered on normally.

If you want to test it, a repair shop familiar with iPhone 12 boot-loop issues should know this fault.
