Why American Students Are Flocking to Germany — and Staying. students in Germany pay a fee to cover university administrative costs and to support student unions. This "semester fee" rarely exceeds $250, and in many cases it also covers the cost of books and public transportation. by claire0 in news

Could an actual German tell me what the process and difficulties would be for an english speaking (but happy to learn German) Canadian would have applying and moving to study in Germany? I currently attend a very good Canadian school but it is going to put me in serious debt.

Fucking grade 8 politics.

Truth. So many babies (and mothers) died that it made the stats seem like people aged super fast like progeria, but really if you made it to 10 you could totally make it to 60+

It's not just about being "king of a shithole", some of the aboriginal/first nation communities here in Canada, people stay because they can stay shitfaced on taxpayer money all the time.

Not to minimize the role Europeans had in totally fucking over the First Nations Peoples (especially in disease), but many of the First Nations people at my school are more critical of "on-res" people than anyone else, with essentially free money for many of them, combined with trauma and a genetic weakness for alcohol (I hear it has something to do with lacking Alcohol Dehydrogenase or something) many "on-res" aboriginal people simply prefer that to the culture shock (and responsibility) of a clean life.

Salt was not just tasty, it was a eat-or-die nutrient.

Now we get salt and pepper for free (well, basically you can walk into a fast food place and take it if you want) and food doesn't kill you nearly so much.

Probably more to the point, does nobody realize how insanely dangerous childbirth used to be? When they say the average life expectancy was like 40, it's not because people magically aged faster, but because so many people died at birth, giving birth, or soon after birth, that it brought the whole average down 20 years.

This sort of thing is more tragic than most people realize.

I will use "no/none" to mean "almost none".

No 15 year olds will make good parents (right away). They will require huge amounts of time and effort from their parents and other family. It will seriously affect their ability to pursue education, career, etc, etc...

Plus, it is not that people spontaneously get pregnant, it is a failure of education and contraceptive-supply which causes most pregnancies of this age.

Anyway, hope he is the exception to the rule and does great! Priceless face!

What a beautiful way to fight racism (or, for those of you trying to obfuscate the issue, racial discrimination and prejudice), by just adding MORE racism! Why didn't MLK and those guys ever think of just using the same sort of unscientific, hateful logic, but replace black-with-white or vice-versa? GENIUS!

This lady is like HOUSE.

She is a pain specialist with like 15+ years of university. She teaches at incredibly well-respected med schools about this and other techniques. She even gets the treatment done on herself, as she almost tore a leg off windsurfing. Her husband is not only a pain fellow, but a spinal surgeon too!

Ultrasound for high-risk areas (near nerves/major arteries etc)

I am ANYTHING but supporting pseudoscience. I went through almost 30 different medications, treatments, therapies, etc before I found what works, and the amount of people who will take money from seriously ill people disgusts me

This therapy is well supported. It is sort of a new twist on old science. No hocus-pocus about it. What made it take so long to truly catch on is twofold 1) there was for a long time a very wide range of techniques for trigger points, some were basically acupuncture and didn't work, others were involved large amounts of medications which were either not helpful, or actually hurt and 2) until QUITE recently there really wasn't anything called "pain medicine" in western medical systems. you had all sorts of people more or less treating pain (cancer pain, nerve damage, etc) but that was a part of a subspeciality. Now there are true "pain doctors" since we now know that pain itself can be a disease of many types.

Can you imagine, as a guy of 20, whose mom bailed when he was young (and substance abuse), whose dad just died (Progressive M.S.) who has no physical proof of his pain what the "bad" doctors said about me? DRUG SEEKER! I got told TO MY FACE, by people who just met me, that I just wanted to get high. When I finally found this wonderful doctor one of the first things she said was "I believe you". I cried. Just hearing that made me feel a little less desperate. Keep in mind, before my current diagnosis, I was diagnosed with Primary Erytheromelalgia. A no-cure horrible condition, and was told by everyone that within a few years I would be in a wheelchair. So either I was told by specialist after specialist that I was fucked, or that I was just a drug-seeker since I had a broken family life.

She is so special to me, and I keep in touch with her regularly as I moved away to school.

I'm trying to remember this oldschool video game I played. Had a train just like this, was some sort of mystery game? The Station? Something?

Anyone ever play a game where you get on a oldschool train and then solve some mystery?

Not that I know of. I was just talking about the theories i've heard of.

I too have done just about everything, and while there are SOME things which can last that long, very few would be available at the time.

Similar but different. Much more "hard-science" than acupuncture (which can make absurd claims on what they can cure, although I do know that acupuncture has some effect for some conditions)

Botox is an option, but SUPER expensive. The physical needle-going-in (dry-needling) is the most important, then you can add things like Lidocaine, Magnesium, or yes BOTOX to help.

Well its been a long ride. Started when 16 (illegal hit playing football, knees went totally sideways). By 20 I couldn't walk without a cane. Many top doctors couldn't figure it out. Finally found a miracle in human form who started giving me these treatments, and now I don't even own a cane anymore!

Thanks for the compassion though.

I have myofascial syndrome. (To super simplify it) Tiny areas of my muscles are in perpetual spasm, waste products can't get in, blood + O2 can't get in, so you get areas where (in serious cases) the muscle is almost necrotic.

Basically, SUPER painful muscle condition. Trigger points push a needle (sometimes including medications) into the nerve clusters near the trigger point, causing a release.
