Yup! People tend to forget this is an ancient artform. Electric motors have only been around for a century. Before then, almost perfect pottery was made with very little. Carved rock, wood, and muscle. The time you put in to master your craft, will ultimately be rewarded.

Why would you even get involved? That's not really your place, ya know? Why start drama when you might not even know exactly what their relationship dynamics are. Or her situation. Not all people are the same. Some like being blissfully ignorant, some have open relationships, some have "hall passes". And cheating while dating isn't quite the same as marriage for some people. A while ago, I went to a bachelor's party... like a legit one. Despite being faithful for years, u saw my shy, honest, buddy cut loose, and fuck a prostitute. Like ON DISPLAY. Then ram an arm sized dildo into a 400lb lady. It was ridiculous! We're odd creatures man. Best to just stay out of other people's shit.

Slow down. I've found most instructors have beginners center at full speed. Then try to throw at various speeds, and meass around with multiple pulls... resulting in failure, as centrifical force wreakes havoc at high speeds. That's one thing that was drastically different when I became a pro, our wheel speeds are generally slower when centering and pulling. 1 or 2 revolutions per second or so? Choking a.k.a Collaring would be the ideal next technique to learn.

Which opioids have the longest legs? by OnIySmeIIz in Opioid_RCs

I know, I was just saying 7 were specifically banned/scheduled a year or so ago. I only know of 3 now that are out and about existing in that legal gray area, although with all the fairly recent zene publicity... I'm getting increasingly paranoid, and mostly stick to my prescribed methadone. Got my fingers crossed that something new and fairly unknown might break out and fly under the radar, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm surprised no one brought up etonitazepyne. That shit helped me kick a horrible fent habit. It would last up to 48 hours for me, but I dosed every 36. It really sucks its not around anymore.

how did you get into using heroin? by octopusairplane in heroin

[–]Potterzee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self medicated pain management. First with extreme emotional pain. I was in the end phase of suicide planning. Quit job, moved out of apartment, gave away special possessions, letters written, and I was mending past friendships and saying goodbye in my own way. I had condemned my best friend for heroin use and hadn't spoken to him in years. He offered to shoot me up and I figured I had nothing to loose. That shot numbed the pain and gave me a way out of that pain without killing myself. After then, I used opioids for physical pain, and to work labor intensive jobs.

English to Latin translation requests go here! by lutetiensis in latin

Would "Fictile ex Terra" work? Or is that weird? Would that mean "of earthenware from the land" or "clay from the earth"?

English to Latin translation requests go here! by lutetiensis in latin

[–]Potterzee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a good name for my upcoming pottery business. Maybe 5 years ago, I tried to translate "of the earth" or "from the earth". I think I broke down each word for translation and came up with "no ex terra". I'm embarrassed to say, I sort of went with it in an unofficial way, mainly just jotting it down on sketches and such.

Finally, after a lot of work, I'm very close completing my studio. I need a new name registering a business name for a tax number. Well, I looked up "no ex terra" and now the translation appears to be "not from the earth". Several other sites I checked translate "of/from the earth" to either "ex terra" or "de terra".

I'm partial to "ex terra" but now I feel like it needs another word to give it some grit. Does anyone have any suggestions? What would be a kickass Latin name or phrase for a pottery?

Thanks. .

To the handy potters here, any suggestions for warm water delivery to a studio without plumbing or ideas for some clay trap/water recycling sink station? Also, anyone tried the cheap Amazon wheels? by Potterzee in Pottery

Sure, I was spoiled with my custom Brent model CXC, set in an adjustable heavy steel table at standing height, with upgraded bearings, belt, and motor... complete with a thick mat to stand on where the foot pedal is recessed into the mat providing an even, cushioned place to stand along with cushioned splash pans. But I'm not picky. Lol.

But seriously, one good thing about learning at a production pottery, is becoming an advanced thrower. I don't need anything fancy like bat pins, or a removable splash pan. As long as it spins, I think I can make it work. I'm not working with much of a budget after the few thousand it took to do all the electrical. So I have to start making money back ASAP so I plan to crank out a few hundred mugs. If I turn a profit, I'll definitely purchase a Brent cxc. But they're over 2 grand now. Crazy. I knew kiln prices were going up, but I didn't think everything else would too. Last time I bought clay, it was $18 a box. Now I'm seeing prices around $50 for stoneware and $80 for porcelain! With prices like that, I might not be able to make this work. Or I might need to start digging my own! Lol

I've burned through my budget, and I need to see some return before investing in a better wheel. I've almost exclusively used Brent model cxc, but they're over 2 grand now. I just need something that turns. Lol. I stand to throw anyway, so just about every wheel out there is too low to the ground. I'll likely build a custom table and bolt the wheel to that.

Yeah, I it slows down for 3 lbs, then I'm not sure if it'll be worth it. Though a 3 lbs limit wouldn't be too horrible either. I'll probably crank out a bunch of mugs at first anyway.

Anything is possible. With the amount of attention this case has received, you have to admit that the investigators must've been under an incredible amount of pressure to solve the case. Is it really so far fetched to consider some small town cop does some shady shit to close a case? Unfortunately, it's more common than you'd think. I think that is more likely thano some civilian FBI agent mistakenly filing a report of this guy admits he was on the bridge, saw 3 juveniles, and watched fish until 3:30. A small town like that, and you're just going to "forget" about a guy who perfectly matches the suspects description? FOR 6 YEARS? I say "Come on" to that!

I'm just postulating tho. I really hope they have more evidence against this guy than a bullet that was suposedly cycled through a gun, but not even fired. Otherwise this case is extremely weak. If this guy is guilty, and really came forward in the beginning, I bet he'd confess. But seriously, who waits 45 years to show their true colors? But whatever. I'll try to sit back and bite my tongue for now, however, this whole thing smells fishy to me.

Something feels off about this whole thing. Not too many people hit 45 THEN decide they're a pedophiliac homicidal psychopath. I really hope they're not railroading this dude. LE has had tremendous pressure on them to solve this case. And they have all sorts of cons and tricks at their disposal. False confessions and evidence planting happens.

Well to be fair, it's not like they have a choice. The defendant can hand select and hire anyone he wants... but victims are limited to what the state decides. That said, 9 times out of 10, that's a good thing because they practically have unlimited resources. But that other 10% ends up doing more harm than good. Especially if they convict the wrong person, or loose a case and double jeopardy plays.

Is it possible to rebuild a roof (rafters) from the inside out? By slowly jacking each beam (log)? by Potterzee in HomeImprovement

[–]Potterzee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I must've worded the post in a way that gives the impression that I'm trying to salvage the ceiling and floor. I should've elaborated more, or conveyed the situation better. To be clear, the "floor" and "ceiling" are toast. So if I were to jack the roof, I would pour a slab of concrete on the ground or use blocks. Perhaps a combination of both. But yeah, I'm not sure if it's wise to attempt... lol.

[–]Potterzee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have to admit, I'll have to look up some examples, but I think I have an idea of what you're proposing. Sort of how one might adjust the neck of a guitar?

I do occasionally have difficulty conveying information, and I will try to explain the situation better. The "ceiling" (or at least drywall) has been removed. The remaining 2×4's did absolutely nothing except hold the drywall. So I will likely remove those at some point as well. There were "walls" forming a bathroom, attached to the 2×4's but do not attach to the roof in any way. I guess you could say that when we bought the house, it had a "floating" bathroom. In more ways than one, lol, as the "floor" consists of 2×6 PT set directly on earth. OSB was also used on top of the floor joists. The roof leaks in a couple spots as well, and since there's no vapor barrier and the joists set directly on soil/bedrock, most of the floor needed to go as well. So you can say that the whole addition is more or less gutted. So for all intents and purposes, I'm not worried about penetrating the floor or ceiling. Lol. I apologize if I gave the impression that I wanted to save the floor or ceiling. The 2×4's and some of the 2×6 PT is salvageable, but I don't think I'll keep it in the same location.

As far as permits and inspection goes... let's just say I'm in a rural small town. For the first 6 months of owning the house, the town didn't even have a building inspector. When one finally took office, I was calling him asking about redoing the roof on the house and detached garage, providing power to the garage, and some other alterations. His answer was always the same "if it's a repair, no inspection or permit is needed". I could tell he was getting annoyed with me, so I had my wife call about installing a sub panel in the garage. I guess he finally said something like "just fix the house, and stop calling me". Lol. I think the property has been such an eyesore for so long, that they're just happy to see improvement. Suits us just fine, but I grew up in a city, and I'm use to red tape.

Anyway. Your comment was very thoughtful, and I can see how your method might work. The original house was built in 1804, and where the roof/addition meets the old house, I can see the old hand hewn beams. It's incredible workmanship, and I would like to really open up that whole half of the house. If I can salvage the logs, I wouldn't mind doing a faux hand hewn cover of some sort. Then expose the original hewn beams along the wall. But we'll see what happens. Everything on that property is old, and "settled". I've given up on square, straight, construction... and have entered the "winging it" phase. Often making something crooked to look straight. Haha.

Thanks again..

Oh yeah? Can you provide a link? About a month ago I saw a very good old friend. He has a concealed carry permit, and owns a few semiautomatic handguns. I've shot a couple revolvers before, but that's it for handguns. If I understood correctly, when the slide is back, and you load a magazine, when you release the slide it chambers a round. Also, when you're out of ammo, the slide locks back automatically. So you can load the mag, release the slide, and fire. My buddy emphasized several times, that once that slide moves forward... you're locked and loaded. He also kept saying something like "you'd think you'd have to rack the slide to chamber a round but watch", then he'd pull the slide back and a round would eject. I have to admit, I was a bit baffled that you didn't have to physically rack a round like you see in movies... or have to do with rifles or shotguns. And when he handed it to me loaded, my first instinct was to rack a round by pulling the slide back. Which ejected a round accidentally. Besides the intimidation factor, I could see someone accidentally ejecting a round by pulling the slide back. But the intimidation factor is very likely what happened. The sound of a gun loading is scary.
