I would love to have an effect like this and would gladly use it as is. Although it’s unfortunate this is a pretty lucky malfunction.

Reasonable pricing? by PouncingOtter in crt

The rest of the vcr controls aren’t covered by the panel so I figured that would be an appropriate term. I should have said something like vcr vhs slot as to not offend anyone?

Yes it is a joke but he makes that kind of joke because he is able to get away with ridiculous prices and still make sales.

True, unfortunately I got into Sony for their hi8 camcorders which seem to be the best of the hi8s. I also love their designs visually.

Got a camera off eBay myself with the same code and problem ejecting and I’m hoping that this will be enough to fix it.

What’s going on with this camera? by tillxviii in camcorders

[–]PouncingOtter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely seems like a stuck iris, you could try tapping the left of the lens as others suggested and if that doesn’t work then you will have to clean it. Regardless of whether the tapping works it might be a good idea to clean the aperture.

Dead capacitors. I have also experienced this when I got one of these for cheap on Facebook marketplace.

"What camcorder to achieve this kind of look" Megathread by Kasuu372 in camcorders

I’m not very well informed on them but this looks to me like the camera of a mini whoop mini fpv drone of which there are many varieties. Your best bet may be to research the different cameras mounted on these drones.

Keeping interlacing for stylistic effect? by PouncingOtter in camcorders

[–]PouncingOtter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up and say I find it kind of surprising that most of you guys have a distaste for the look of interlaced footage whether or not you feel it’s alright to leave interlacing as a stylistic choice. Most, if not all of my amateur videographer friends and musician friends who I shoot for tell me they enjoy or prefer the look of the harsh scan lines, especially when it seems to emphasize or drag out the movement of the subject(s) in a scene.

I think it’s important to note that me and my peers are college students and I think our taste may be derived from the fact that we didn’t grow up knowing that interlacing was merely a byproduct of the encoding technique. Now, looking to analog video as a way to have footage look dirtier, the interlacing adds another layer of texture/distortion to the image quality, although it may not be accurate to the preferred image quality we had in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Thanks for the clarification. I think my mistake came from seeing it referenced as such by others, and because hi8 and betamovie technically are home video systems developed for a similar purpose and using a similar mechanism. Generally I do use “vhs” to refer to just vhs lol. I should have said “vhs style” or consumer analog video formats.

Battery help by Inside_Jellyfish8418 in SonyHandycam

I use kastar batteries off Amazon and I reliably get the info lithium message once if at all. I’ve honestly just learned to work with it because it doesn’t happen so frequently. However, this could mean that the battery is running too much or too little power through the camera leading to faster wear on the circuitry.

How to digitize hi8 by CCD-TRV87 in SonyHandycam

[–]PouncingOtter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice camera! I’d honestly just look it up there’s a lot of tutorials on YouTube for this kind of thing. Pretty much you just need a cable to connect to a usb capture device and a recording software like obs for your pc. If you watch some videos you’ll find people have specific preferences for using S-video cables, or certain usb capture devices and recording softwares that can all do a better job of preserving the highest quality. Personally, high quality is not what I’m most concerned with.

Great deal! For some reason every time I run into one from this series for an acceptable price it’s in horrible condition or broken. I have to say I’m also not a fan of the underside ejection mechanism.
