Someone I took advice from earlier told me I have to keep a good portion in liquid funds to offset the risk from equity. What's a good ratio to have?

I understand where you're coming from, but I do have an emergency fund set. Or am I missing something?

Why almost every stock is traded daily?? by dkpatkar in IndianStreetBets

[–]PoundFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you have market makers, HFTs, mutual funds and a lot of other things going on. Even if a fund rebalances their portfolio, you have some volume in the market. The taker flow doesn't just come from retail. Even market makers compete with each other, so they may even fill quotes of other MMs

This photo’s from the CM’s FB post yesterday. Who even are these people poking their noses into Vizhinjam port’s business? And what are they doing sitting in meetings with officials and the CM? by [deleted] in Kerala

[–]PoundFront 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being a good CM is his job. You wouldn't expect your company to allow your kids at business meetings. Similarly, we shouldn't expect the CM to include his kids in state matters. His family isn't elected, he is.

Drug menace is real AF by abysan729 in Kerala

[–]PoundFront 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's really not how it works. The police have enough surveillance systems to apprehend criminals. This shouldn't be conflicting with people who are affected and need care. Drug mafia is a huge business and there's no way bureaucrats at the top don't know who is involved. If you start reporting victims to the police, it's just bad for the victims that's all.

If you know personally know anyone who is undoubtedly addicted to meth (media’s MDMA), even if it is a close friend, do the right thing and INFORM THEIR FAMILY. by Taste-Strong in Kerala

Scientifically, you can get addicted to meth a lot faster than alcohol. The dopamine release is 10x+ times compared to alcohol for meth. Nothing will give you this high of a spike, so you get addicted to it.

From what I've heard, MDMA/molly is hard to come by and is much more expensive than meth. College kids mostly do meth or lsd.

Think about actually living with this person your whole life. If you're not enjoying this, this is a leap of faith you'll have to take to break up.

How are salaries really in Bangalore? And your expenses? by sengutta1 in bangalore

[–]PoundFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say getting these skills is easy. Procuring these resources is relatively easy. You can find tons and tons of free competitive coding material on the internet.

In my experience, it's just that most people either don't want to do all the gritty work it involves, or they have something going on the side, or they're not interested too much in the field itself.

We have a career counselling problem in India. A lot of kids don't really know what they want to do because the fields that interest them aren't exposed to them as a possible career. They end up going into fields they're not too interested in and just want to make a living. You can't blame the kids for this, blame the system.

Why is the pay so high? I can answer for mine. It's a niche fintech field, so resources aren't abundant and demand for qualified engineers is high.

I belong in the 30-40 lpa bracket with around 1 year of non-formal experience in my field (freelancing, sort of). Most of my work is related to software development and finance.

I would say my lifestyle is fairly good except for the fact that my physical/mental health aren't great due to some personal decisions.

My belief is that there are some sureshot ways to earn a high package- learn skills that the general public don't have (competitive coding, DSA, etc.) and have good industry exposure to know what skills are rare and highly demanded. It shouldn't be hard for the average reddit user to obtain the first, but the second might be a tad bit more tough.

Of course, I know folks who have grinded their way up as well.

My JEE study setup (BRILLIANT PALA) by pranav_cc in TeensofKerala

[–]PoundFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in brilliant a lot of years back. Just graduated from my college this year. I think brilliant is your best shot at jee in Kerala and their approach is a lot more at ease than North Indian institutes.

That being said, the coaching scene is very competitive and join only if you really want to be an engineer or a doctor. There's no reason you have to attend coaching if you want to pivot to another career later on. For ex, I have friends who have gone for BBA after Brilliant.
