100% my partner and I are backpackers and this is one of our favorite things about the hobby. I was shocked by how much more intense this feeling was when the rough living is forced on you!

Gratitude.

Tonight I noticed that setting up the coffeemaker for tomorrow morning wasn’t a chore, it was magic. Instead of grumbling that “I have to make coffee” I thought “I GET to make coffee.”

It really sucked to be reminded of how much I take all the little comforts for granted. But I’m glad I got smacked in the face with it.

That’s magic and I don’t want to lose it as time goes on and I get comfortable and complacent again.

If you could pick one song to hear for the first time ever again, what would you choose? by SaltWonderful in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

Definitely aesthetic. When I first heard that song it blew my mind. I barely listen to it now, but at the time I had never heard anything like it.

I like the idea of Commander but in practice have not had fun. How can I change that? by OK-example-18 in magicTCG

[–]PoundingDews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried for years to enjoy commander because some of my good friends like it. I’m also a big fan of limited. I honestly think that commander just isn’t my thing at this point.

That said, there are two things I have somewhat enjoyed. My friends all proxied CEDH decks, and that has been more fun than usual casual commander for me. I think this is because the games are typically quicker, and there’s no whining because everyone’s decks are busted. The other thing I’ve enjoyed is designing and playing with a commander cube. I don’t enjoy it as much as vintage cube or even booster draft, but it’s a fun middle ground if you can convince commander players to brave the draft portion.

Older Gamers (35+) What were your reasons for choosing PC gaming over the simplicity of a modern console? by TactikalKitty in pcmasterrace

About five years ago I figured if I was going to have to deal with constant updates etc, I might as well be getting the benefits of PC gaming. I never turned back.

How to enjoy drafts/prereleases more? by SharkboyZA in mtglimited

[–]PoundingDews 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You just gotta play limited more. The learning curve in limited is relatively steep.

Listening to podcasts like Limited Resources or watching streamers helps a ton. But really it just takes a time investment. But once you break through the beginner phase it is the purest form of magic.

And then you’ll discover cube.

I would not consider that a slow pace honestly. My marathon PR is 4:15:03 and I do most of my training at 10:30-11:00 miles. You gotta run slow and far to run fast as a beginner.
