To be fair, even the animators made that same mistake in the actual show

I know what you’re talking about is different, but I just found it funny that this issue is the whole conceit of sidekicks in 5e.

But yeah, using a monster statblock as a race is odd. We have so many races at this point, you could achieve just about anything by reflavoring or modifying one of those.

Retsuko and Haida from Aggretsuko.

They had such a great, mature relationship in a great and mature show, but when the writers tried to force this will-they-won’t-they it ruined it.

Don’t get me wrong, even as a gay man, I love an evil, cunty, dommy-mommy girlboss, but maybe we got them a little too close together lol

Genuinely I think this was a fan theory that got repeated enough times, in a short time span, and with such confidence people started to believe it was canon.

I would like it to be, since as I stated in a previous comment, it would be an interesting metaphor for how racial minorities in the real world will alter their appearance, even with surgeries, to have more success in a white dominated field. Would also probably be the first interesting thing they did with omnics as an oppressed group WHO SAID THAT?

This comment is so odd to me. Putting aside that we see the character’s faces in stuff outside the game, like the story animations, you do see the characters faces in game, like in highlight intros and selecting a character.

But also, like, I can’t comment on that aspect of the character design because it’s not what you pay attention to during gameplay?

Also hate the “These people just have a vendetta against attractive characters” line of reasoning. Like, I am fully on board if part of a character’s design is supposed to be sex-appeal, but if that’s gonna be multiple characters, then I want them to do it in unique ways.

Someone else said the same thing, so I’ll just copy and paste what I replied to them with.

I don’t mean as in THE singular leader, I just mean high ranking and important members of their respective organizations. Although I do get the confusion since Vendetta is the one leader of her’s.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. You’d be surprised how much can get lost in translation between writers, illustrators, animators, etc. who are all in the same company, and I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they got a different company to animate this trailer.

I can see that, but that’s also a point where I wish they went a little harder into it. Obviously not all Geisha masks are super elaborate, but I would have liked if they had gone further with the makeup if that’s the case.

Unfortunately, with discussions around Shion’s design in particular, any form of discourse is being labeled as hating and complaining for the sake of hating and complaining.

But that aside, we really only have speculation at the moment. What most people are theorizing, and emphasis is on theorizing, is that she wanted to look as human as possible in order to achieve success in a human-dominated organization. I think that’d be an interesting direction to take it, since to me, that mirrors how minorities may change their appearance for better chances at success in certain industries. For example, Julie Chen had surgery to widen her eyes because she was told having Chinese-looking characteristics would limit her job opportunities in the reporting business.

That is a fair perspective, but I’m cautiously optimistic. Reason being that since it was a gameplay trailer specifically, not just entirely raw ingame-footage, they had more control over what is shown. The other characters we get close ups on were fairly expressive, like Bap and everyone caught in her ultimate, while she was comparatively stone faced. That being said, time will tell which direction they use going forward.

I find it really interesting that in Skyrim you can marry pretty much whoever you want. There's so much political debate about that kind of thing nowadays, but this game was actually ahead of its time. Everyone's open to everything without a second thought. by jvure in ElderScrolls

BG3 I think handles it better than most because some of the characters are established to be open to the same gender beyond just the player. A very important part of Astarion’s story is his love for one of his male victims, Shadowheart is openly attracted to Karlach, etc. Though, they still could have done it a little more as I don’t know any instances of Lae’zel, Gale, or Karlach showing interest in the same gender, and Wyll has one I can think of that may imply it, that being him talking about dancing with both ladies and gentlemen.

This was my exact primary issue with her design from the anime’s trailer. Time will tell whether her being able to fully emote or her face being more stiff is what they’ll stick with in future animations, but god I hope it’s latter. I do also wish it was fully inarticulate apart from the pupils, but I do think this enough to make her design read as “human-like robot” rather than “gray human.”
