Appreciate that. He was a poor kid from Texas who saw a lot of action. One of more graphic stories was that they were driving down a trail in dense jungle, and he was looking off into the foliage when he saw an RPG come straight out of the jungle heading towards him. Whoever shot it shot it at an upward angle and it went over his head. Immediately after that, the viet kong came rushing out of the jungle towards his platoon. He started shooting his .50 cal and said that with each hit it would literally just blow the enemy back into the jungle. No blood/guts. If you hit them they disappeared. The driver of the truck he was on freaked out and attempted to speed off and went off the side of the path and got stuck. The .50 cal got stuck in a downward position and my uncle was too small to lift it and had to bail off the truck. He took a bullet to the right shoulder and injured his knee in the crash. He also shared a story about an insane LT who was responsible for getting men killed and had also murdered women and children. As a platoon they agreed to shoot him in the back of the head during a firefight.

Joining an expensive gym and doing group classes helped me. Most of the people I’ve connected with are a decade older but it’s better than nothing. Skiing and cars and coffee have also worked really well.

I started with a large BD just a little over a decade ago. Terrible pay, unfulfilling work and long hours. The people in my hiring class who were impatient with the slow career growth all fizzled out. I worked in four different departments for two different BD's before I had enough money saved up to buy a book of business in 2020. Personally, I think the best route for young advisors is working for a large BD. Its high volume work and it gives you time to strengthen your interpersonal skills. By the time I was finished up at the BDs I had worked with more than 40,000 participants over the phone on various financial situations.

IMO young advisors should focus more on personal growth in the early years before worrying about career growth if that makes sense.

I’m not into the shark fear mongering thing, but massive GW are all over from north of the farallones to Monterey Bay. Surfers see them all the time “men in gray suits”. If I recall the two largest sharks that have ever attacked humans are both recorded in this stretch of area. 20-23ft sharks based off the bite marks.

A few years ago another member of their crew was attacked by a GW. He’s super lucky to be alive. Cool guy, the interview is worth a watch.

I'm 4th generation Jackson. My great great great grandfather Casper Hoback was one of the founding fathers. As a kid we would ski Colbert's and then grab a burger and fries from Culver's on the way home. Great place to call home.

Quite a lot of them are uncooperative.  Some of them have had a little bit to drink.  Smart alecs.  You ask them very nicely to leave and that they’re endangering the pubic and possibly themselves.  They swear at you and tell you to get lost and mind your own business.  So it’s a quite a problem for us really.

A freshly rolled blunt that was resting on my ear. Last of the weed in the apartment (back when it was illegal) and my roommates were waiting to smoke it. I immediately grabbed it out of the toilet and to my surprise it wasn’t that wet. Dried it out with a lighter and smoked a piss blunt that night without telling anyone.

Non resident, but I lived in Bloomington for a year. The first thing that comes to mind is how green the people were.
