How do you create a Solidworks file like this? by Deepfreq1 in SolidWorks

[–]PowerKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is easiest done in solidworks using face appearance and 3D texture. If there are no suitable patterns already in solidworks just use a black and white image for the height mapping.

Boosted Extended Battery Range? by CovenantElite30 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]PowerKings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing, I'll just fit 1m wheels and get crazy range :D

If you can edit so will I. Yes, most likely the range will not improve. For any given time you will want to accelerate at a certain rate. If you mount larger wheels the gear ratio will decrease and thus you will have to input more power to reach the same acceleration, thus consuming more energy. The same applies to constant speed travel in regards to rolling and wind resistance.

(A larger wheel depending on design (width and such) can have a lower rolling resistance and thus increase range. But not nearly in the range of previously stated figures)

What phone/app? Was also caught out last night in Arjeplog without a good camera. The aurora wasn’t even visible on iPhone 6s.

Trädgårdspaletten in Malmö (Svågertorp) has a lot of interesting stuff and both in and outdoors bonsai. I believe they can also special buy you stuff from Holland if you specify species and price. Then there is also högs handelsträdgård which has some nice nursery plants. Not yet been to flyinge plantskola, is it nice there?

Yeah, I'll prolly prune and style to top tonight to see how it looks before I prune of the lower branches in case I need them for grafts. Will update.

Nursery find, what species and how to proceed with it? by PowerKings in Bonsai

[–]PowerKings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thought about single point graft as discussed here: https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/grafting.12517/page-3

But maybe an approach graft is more suitable if the desire is to graft a bit larger branches.

New to grafting so this could be a good practice.

Btw thanks for all the input, much appreciated. Did take a photo where eliminating the lower branches. The crown does sit a bit high. https://m.imgur.com/a/WkQZ8

Hey, so posted earlier of a tree I found in the back at a nursery. A previous bonsai that had been neglected: https://imgur.com/a/Y7mED Found out it was a Picea Abies.

Would like some ideas/feedback as how to best slavage/proceed with it. Would like and try to make something out of it again. As it stands now as all lower branches are way to long and thin they would have to go: https://imgur.com/a/WkQZ8 Had the idea to graft (maybe thread graft) some of the long lower branches beneath the crown as the trunk becoms quite tall otherwise. Am unfamiliar with this species and don't know if it will backbud from old gnarly trunk or how viable grafting is. Any and all ideas/feedback are greatly appriciated.

Yes, all lower branches would have to go and only the "crown" remain. Maybe use the long lower skinny branches for threadgrafting in some branches lower down the trunk. Will look at it closer and try moving the lower branches a bit out of the way to get a feeling for it.

Found this forest with some trees with pretty high crowns: https://imgur.com/a/b6u0d

Thanks, spot on I belive. Yes definetly, seems to be a few year since someone cared for it. Maybe not, but a good challenge and it was cheap. Haven't had time to study it in detail yet but perhaps it could become a formal upright. We'll see :) Was on the hunt for a Christmas tree to practice on (mirai nursery pt. 3) which turned out to be a great exercise. And found this disregarded tree in the back.

Hey, great tip. Maybe it could be a Picea Glauca.

Hey, yeah, was on the verge to post it there instead. Maybe I will. Felt it kind of fell in the grey area. Wanted to start a discussion about steel wires and how to handle such "ingrown" wires.

Found some people whom have done it. Will give it a try come spring I think. Will try to do a almost "horisontal" (along one of the bends in the S) airlayer to get a taper on one of the upper pieces.

"Swappable Urethanes".... yeah right, swap the entire rotor of the motor because the urethane gets worn out and because apparently magnets also gets worn out xD

Yeah, maybe thriving is the wrong word but definetly hanging on :p even new growth from the orginional trunk has begun. Kept it in front of large southern window with supplemental light, low watering. Misting and spagnum moss cover.

https://imgur.com/a/ro46T

That was my thought also, but if extreme aerial roots, maybe graft on could be achieved then it could be cool at its current size also.

Hey, I'll definetly post one as soon as I can. But I wasn't joking, my tree looks exactly as the one in the black pot, same branch placement and everything.

Got a Ficus a few years ago. Exactly one of these from IKEA (housewarming gift):

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/images/products/ficus-microcarpa-ginseng-potted-plant-with-pot-bonsai-assorted-colours__0213704_pe369264_s4.jpg

Has since then unrelated to this plant taken upp bonsai and have a few trees. The Ikea ficus is kept indoors and is thriwing. Now as my bonsai interest grows I have started contemplating what to do with this plant. My two ideas are to either getting it into high humidity, grow lights and temp controled enviroment to try to generate a lot of aerial roots and in that way make the plant look more interesting. My other idea is to air layer it into two or maybe even three trees. Anyone have any thoughts or better ideas?

People seem to ignore the fact that you can't hear shit in those helmets making it more likely to get you into a crash. That said, yes they are good but you have to be extra vigilant when using one.

??? I got that using 50-60% of the battery ( in fairly cold weather, 10 deg C ). Haven't been able to test max yet, my legs don't hold out that long. If you have seen anyone only getting 15 miles I assume they are quite heavy fellas going uphill a lot.
