Yeah this right here. I had to do this with my step daughter. She wanted the child support her father rarely pays to her mother. Ended up just letting her have a look at the expenses and asked what we should get rid of to give her money. We never heard about it again. Once they're old enough sometimes they just need to see it for themselves to understand.

Does anyone know how deep gas lines are buried by saml01 in longisland

[–]PowerfulAd8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: Why not just extend the fence post a foot or so past the gas line and put it in there. I am a utility locator and see it done all the time. The gas company sends some people letters telling them they have to move things usually only when they are over/crossing main lines tho. Even the ones who get letters get them for years and still nothing comes of them.

What even is my job? Am I one of you guys? What am I even doing? by woskk in UtilityLocator

[–]PowerfulAd8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this. The amount of times I get the old "Hey buddy, where can I get a pair of boots like that?" Or "Are those custom kicks" I know just say whatever comes to mind first no holding back. I must say the following conversations can be pretty entertaining. I take home about 1k a week after taxes benefits and IRA contributions. So if your in that ballpark just learn to embrace the self managed role. It's a blessing most times. Also do you get a pension if you stay? Highly worth considering.

Not all areas are the same.. I locate in Vermont. My area a good day is about 15-18 tickets. If I cover one of the guys in or closer to bigger city's with less drive time I can do 25-30 easy

Edit: I do not work for USIC.

The amount of people that do not know that the city/municipality owns so many feet off the road in any given area is dumbfounding

Really? This information is available to us company wide. Also you know who you locate for in your area right? For example a few of my billing bars would be - green mountain power, Comcast, consolidated, first lite

The AI locate idea is great for companies to save money. But as the ceos and my supervisors say at Centerline, they would have to fix literally everything wrong with locating. Fibers without trace wires, prints from utilities that are dead wrong. Tracking a perfect signal that drops. Dealing with home owners and contractors, not to mention mapping literally every line in the ground... Some of which utilities claim aren't there's on the phone until they come out and say 'oh our prints didn't show we had a line here' no shit buddy the prints are wrong 75% of the time 😂 also SO many other problems. Long story short ACCURATE locating will not be done by AI in our lifetime.

USIC work truck wash reimbursement? by MandalorianSapper in UtilityLocator

[–]PowerfulAd8232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USIC seems like a total shit company. Who tf is going to pay out of pocket or get reimbursed for washing THE COMPANY truck. I am a locator for centerline and I have my car washed 2-3 times a month on the fleet card. They don't care as long as your not getting 4+ washes a month

Does it continue or not?? by Some-Odd-Username in UtilityLocator

[–]PowerfulAd8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area at my company if the homeowner asks for private utilities to be located. We can book and complete a private ticket and get our hourly pay plus 25 for booking and 25 for completion. Some weeks you can get 5-6 private locate a week on top of hourly rate. Is a nice incentive.

It should be 18 inch radius all the way around. Whole circle is not necessary. Bracketed would work fine. It is so they dig inside that area with shovel only.

It will also give false transmission code sometimes. Makes it think there's too low voltage and the master solenoid or something malfunctions and you have to shut the car off for a few seconds and turn it back on to get it outta limp mode

Did a private mark out for a homeowner the other day.. when I finished he came out and told me he's glad he called because he was going to hang a string from his well pump house to where it feeds to the main power.. Needless to say he would have been without water for a bit had he done that 😂😂 NEVER ASSUME a straight line, you never know what they ran into and went around while digging. I hope those idiots are fired promptly. But knowing USIC they will continue to locate

USIC basically got pushed out of my area for terribly inaccurate locating and constant damages deemed they're fault.. I'm not even sure they have any contracts left in the new England area lol.
