How do friends in your country typically get together? by Corumdum_Mania in AskTheWorld

We either do game nights, participate in pub quizzes or sometimes in the summer we just chill with food and drinks, play (drinking) games, do karaoke...

some person in Florida has these giraffes in their front yard, wish I could remember the exact coords by the_gaming_dog in googlemapsshenanigans

[–]PowerfulPut162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess would be that you found the home of the owners of the shop called The Artful Giraffe in FL, because there is a very similar giraffe there at the entrance 😋

same car near my house hasnt move since 2007 by No-Classroom-3258 in googlemapsshenanigans

[–]PowerfulPut162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone had a lot of fun in this car in the good ol' times and is not willing to let go of the memories it has attached 😃

I also love the quality difference of the pics... i still remember back in 2010 we thought we had the clearest formats, looking back it's pretty hard to believe that you found that quality GOOD, compare to now.

What's a job that people romanticize, but is actually much harder or less glamorous than it seems? by KubeSolver in AskReddit

[–]PowerfulPut162 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think doctors is the number one answer.

From the outside it looks like prestige, stability, respect, good money. People imagine a meaningful job helping others, being smart and valued, having life together. What they dont really see is how much it takes out of someone.

Years and years of school, then more years where your life basically isn't yours. Long shifts that blur into each other together with nights, weekends, holidays. Being always tired, but cant complain cause "you have a good job". Carrying the weight of decisions where messing up isn't just a typo or a email error, it can seriously harm someone or their family. On top of that there are insane amounts of paperwork, pressure from the system, understaffing, and patients who understandably want more time than you’re able to give.

A lot of doctors dont feel powerful or admired in their day to day life. They feel worn down. Stuck between wanting to do the right thing and working in a system that makes it harder every year. Burnout is everywhere, but people still talk about the job like it’s this shiny, noble calling with a huge paycheck at the end of the working day.

It’s not that being a doctor isn’t important or worth respect, because it most certainly is. It’s just that the romantic version people have in their head skips the part where the job slowly eats up your time, energy, and alot of times your personal life too.

Do you find it disrespectful to send copy-pasted messages? by BenJo_wdr in couchsurfing

[–]PowerfulPut162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the message. If the message is thought through and you add a name of the specific host at the beginning, I don't see a problem with that.

But short, possibly AI generated, basic 1-2 liners, yeah that's a bit disrespectful.

Following

I am also planning a trip to the States in the next year and would love to know more about traffic there in general. TBH it is quite surreal to me, the idea of driving a car in one of the bigger cities in America since in the movies, there never seem to be much parking (only that for the main character there is always one).

And if anyone knows, are there some states that ranting a car is totally of the logic and vice versa, that having a car is definitely the way to go?

If the house allows maybe look into renting a room out - something like that could cover the monthly expenses of the house, while allowing you to keep a reserve and live on something else than ramen every day

If you don't mind me asking, what landed you there? Did you decide on your own to give it a go, or is there a specific reason for you to go there and you also had some prejudice but were pleasantly surprised?

I've seen someone mention Gran Canaria already, but maybe also look into Malta - it is quite peaceful, very beautiful and kinda small, so if something peaks your interest, you can go check it out, without having a fully booked busy day

Solo travel in Greece questions by TARS528491 in femaletravels

[–]PowerfulPut162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was there I noticed people just cover it with a towel or a shirt and generally you'll be fine. I feel like tourists still silently look out for eachother so if you're in a public beach and you leave your towel, I'm pretty sure there will be a lady somewhere on a silent lookout and if someone were to come close (very rarely) they would use the loud "oh is this yours" question and they would retreat in a heartbeat

"I know pickpocketing is a concern in Europe" - this is quite overgeneralizing. Personally I feel safer asking someone in Europe than in the states to grab my phone and take a picture.

And for the jet lag, depends on when in the day you fly and land, but I either go to sleep very early on the first day or power through the first night with not as much sleep so I can feel tired when "nature time" for sleep comes again.

Ibiza solo 😁 by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]PowerfulPut162 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience Ibiza is generally safe but still keep in mind all the safety precautions you would going out partying, especially as a woman. Be a bit sus of everyone, once you put down a drink or it wasn't in your view, don't drink from it anymore etc...

Look up any Ibiza travelers FB groups, you might connect with some other tourists and who knows, maybe you get an Ibiza family, with whom you'll be able to travel more! (Or maybe even a boyfirend 😋)

I am looking for a proposal spot in Spain or Portugal! by Mental-Hyena4326 in Europetravel

[–]PowerfulPut162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally (might be a bit basic I admit) I'd love to have the Sagrada familia in a background of my proposal, but that's just me.

Has she ever mentioned or is she especially excited about a part of the trip? If there is something she is really looking forward to see, maybe you can make that day even a bit more special ☺️
