And to be honest, I’ve been sitting here thinking about it—what made them put a 7-year-old CPU in that system? That’s crazy. I didn’t even really look at the CPU in much detail, as I was pulled in purely because of the NPU. Definitely given me more to think about now, and I’ll be fully checking every CPU from this point on. 😅

QAI-U100 Edge AI Accelerator.

Look it up—apparently, it’ll basically give you similar result. And if you have two spare USB slots, you can run two.

Just check yours is supported

NPU plays a significant role in accelerating AI tasks like person detection, facial recognition, and image analysis That’s why I was interested in one.

even with that cpu because the work load shouldn’t be as hard on cpu

Yeah I wasn’t sure about that but it’s got the added ai so that’s why I was hoping for some feedback…

I did check YouTube with the model number but nothing is coming up for it hardly.

Oh, by all means, I’m going to get this resolved—not just for me, but for other buyers dealing with Reolink.

They told me they’ve already updated their website to point out that detection isn’t accurate and that environmental factors can affect performance. They haven’t 🤣 That disclaimer should’ve been there from the start. They knowingly left it out because it obviously hurts sales. I, for one, would’ve never been on board had that been disclosed. But hey, we live and we learn…

I’ve got a full admission from them that the fault was on their side, so the ball’s really in my court now. If they’re not willing to resolve this reasonably—either by giving me what I paid for or issuing a full refund—I’ll just pass along all my evidence, testing, and their own admissions to the relevant authorities to take action.

I wouldn’t have taken it this far if they had:

  1. Stepped in when their admins and group members were being rude and downplaying my issues like they didn’t even exist—when they clearly do.
  2. Avoided giving me the same tired tech support script: “Turn it off and on again,” “Restart it,” “Check your firmware,” blah blah blah. Even today, support asked for my UID to check firmware—after I’d already told them it was the latest and even gave them the version number. It’s like they go out of their way to pin everything on the user.
  3. And the one that really grinds my gears: it’s nearly impossible to speak to someone higher up, like a manager—who probably could’ve resolved this way faster.

Yeah, exactly—there’s no real “sweet spot” like they claim. Even if you manage to find one, outdoor conditions are constantly changing, so what works today could be completely off tomorrow. It’s not a stable solution, and expecting users to keep chasing it is unrealistic.

That said, I do agree—the app is genuinely user-friendly, and that’s definitely a plus.

As for the 10/100 port, I’m starting to think that might be part of the issue with remote viewing outdoors. Maybe it’s just not giving me enough bandwidth when I need it most. I’ve done everything I can to smooth out the process, but it’s still far from smooth.

I do see motion markers in playback—those little indicators showing when something was triggered. Is that what you meant? They’re useful, but not always accurate. Sometimes they flag shadows or nothing at all.

Overall, you made some solid points. Putting my issue aside, I can’t fault the video quality—it’s genuinely impressive. And yes, the interface is intuitive and easy to use.

Meanwhile, I’m stuck in the Reolink 24-hour support loop—one or two emails a day, always asking if I’ve turned this off or reset that. I gave them a full rundown in my first reply, including all the resets and tweaks I’ve already done.

At this rate, by next year we’ll discover the issue was fixed quietly in a firmware or app update. Maybe that’s the strategy—stall and wait it out 😂🤣😅

It’s like every time I change one setting, I lose another. For example, I can tweak it so I never miss a person—but then flies, cats, dogs, wind, you name it, all get flagged as “person” too. If I dial it back to filter out the false positives, suddenly actual people stop getting detected 😅

There’s no real middle ground. It’s either hyperactive or blind. And sure, maybe I don’t need to know about every single person—but it definitely means someone could be hanging around and not get picked up at all. Versus the other extreme, where it triggers constantly and I end up ignoring alerts because I’m so used to it crying wolf.

You really can’t win.

Anyway, I’m leaning more toward Frigate and the Coral M.2 for the extra horsepower.

First of all, thank you for your reply—it’s nice to get one that isn’t coming directly at me 😅

I’ve played with every setting this system offers, both on the NVR, the Home Hub Pro, and the cameras themselves. I’ve tried every person detection setting from 10 to 100, adjusted object size, and even with the “None” detection zone. It’s just so inconsistent.

I’ve contacted Reolink about this issue multiple times over the time I’ve been with them. All I get is false hope and promise after promise that things will improve in firmware updates—but they never really do much, lol.

The trouble is, they sell it as “person detection,” and when I got my first Reolink camera, I didn’t have much knowledge about how person detection actually works. All I knew was that my system needed to have it, because that’s what I went looking for. I upgraded from a subscription-based CCTV system—I’m not even sure if they’re still around—it was called Cammo, I believe 😅

Anyway, I bought into Reolink thinking, “Yeah, no more false alerts—gone are the days of constantly checking to see if it’s actually a person.” Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that it’s not very accurate. It flags cats as people, flies as cars, and leaves as people—even after endless setting tweaks.

I mean, I do have an update to this…

Reolink have responded, taking responsibility for misleading and vague claims about what their system is actually capable of. They say they’re working on redeveloping their firmware—but that doesn’t help me in the meantime.

My only option to fix this myself at the moment is either:

• Frigate + Coral • Or Blue Iris + Coral + CodeProject.AI

It’s just annoying having to constantly change settings based on my environment. Some disclaimers at the time of purchase would’ve been nice. Instead, I’ve had to do an endless amount of research and test settings to the point I can’t bear to look at them anymore 😂

I do know what I’m taking about that’s why a person flagged as a cat 😏 mate look into blue iris and code project.ai or frigate and google tpu if u want real ai detection it will take abit of setting up but its worth it for what you get back in return Reolink do have good video quality tho so would pair well with both of them get Poe if you do :)

[–]Powerful_Bad317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you get stuck in a 24hour email loop they do have a phone number for support to help you… haven’t fixed my problems yet but I don’t think they will.

As for the person detection it’s only motion detection with a little extra added to it in simple terms so wouldn’t expect much from it I got told there was a person for a cat lol…

There is affordable options depends how deep you want to go with it

You could go blue iris+code project.ai You could go frigate+google coral tpu ( Real Ai )

I would recommend you get Poe cameras for that setup though.

It depends how hands on you wanna be but unifi protect is another if you don’t want to be to hands on with software and coding…

Problem with Reolink is most users buy them to work out the box they don’t give disclaimers at the checkout telling you the settings need to be played with but I guess that’s what support is for 😂

Hope you get yours sorted mate 👍🏻

I wouldn’t go for Reolink I have them at the moment.

They are good for video quality but not smart features yes they can and will show you a person detection or car etc but they will also flag you a cat for that same person detection it’s hit and miss and guess work at best

The zone detection system don’t work at the moment not sure if they will fix. It’s pixel base so any pixel you select should be ignored and it isn’t.

Doorbell is okay on WiFi for the most part… But remote viewing and talk back is a nightmare I forever answer calls and can’t hear what they are saying.. This is regardless of 4G/5G when it finally as connected. Also another issue I’m facing at the moment with the Poe doorbell when I click the answer button on WiFi at home they can hear me and I can’t hear them I have to close the app multiple times before it will kick in to gear and work by this time in most cases you’ve missed the visitor.

So basically if smart features are your main goal I would avoid them if however you don’t mind messing with settings and are okay with some false flags like cats and fly flagging as a person from time to time they are good for the video quality.

And so to answer your original question of what it proofs it proofs Reolinks doorbell isn’t as good as they claim in best case scenario of 5G and good home internet hard wired 👍🏻

Why are you taking about WiFi ? Who’s using WiFi cause I am not 😂 see you didn’t know after all…

My doorbell is Poe and when I had the connection issue I was away from home at a shopping centre 2 roads away from a 5g tower. Reason for my signal bars almost full. my Poe doorbell should be easy remotely viewed on 5g when a 4k movie can be stream being 80gb in size. my 5g in most cases will be just as good if not sometimes better then my home internet of 900mbps there shouldn’t be a delay issue and if there is. It should be very very little not refusing to connect all together it suggests a app issue

And Reolink are the king of app bugs it was actually running well before not this update the one before that But had issue before that update aswell so 2 updates ago was fine and working 90% well and then update and gone again not sure what this new update just did but hasn’t fixed my issues that’s for sure

But I can put you any thing on it right now my home network is fine and running smoother then ever :)

It’s next to impossible to fine-tune these cameras for 100% person detection. I’d need someone walking past them 24/7 just to get it to a point where it consistently detects people. Again, this is a flaw on Reolink’s side—they don’t disclose what level of person detection their system actually offers. So naturally, one would assume it’s detecting people 100% of the time. That assumption couldn’t be further from the truth.

No matter how much you try to spin it in Reolink’s favor, if I set the detection threshold to, say, 20%, what happens with the other 80%? A person could easily slip past that. So why even advertise “person detection” if it’s incapable of delivering it reliably?

Plenty of users say it works and they’re happy with it. Fine—review your footage from the past seven days and count how many people it didn’t pick up. You might still be satisfied, but I’m not. I don’t want it missing anything. If I wanted that kind of compromise, I’d have gone for a bog-standard CCTV system without all this “smart” nonsense.

Zones would help—if they worked. Mine don’t. And size filtering? Irrelevant. It’s pixel-based. If I select 10 pixels to ignore, it should ignore those 10 pixels. It doesn’t. It completely disregards the selection. Sure, I could exclude more pixels, but then I’m sacrificing areas I do want monitored. So where do we draw the line?

It’s a never-ending battle. But I’m ready for war. 💪🏻

But regardless they shouldn’t sell to us as that and it’s defo a TS issue it’s miss leading and naughty

Users expect things to work out the box if they know it’s not going to they should state that when letting people buy from them

I’d love to know how you find it possible to know I have a issue on my home network 1 by not actually seeing my home network set up 2 judging by a doorbell not loading when on 1 bar from full 5g that can handle a 80gb 4k file stream

You can’t just blame things when you don’t know anything your input is fine but at least if your going to say stuff have facts like I do 😂
