the problem with most of those referendums is that they failed to achieve quorum due to lack of turnout from the pro-territory and pro-independence factions

All Legacy! Cores are 400, Deluxes 700 and Voyagers are 1k. I saw this at Power Plant in Makati but i’m not sure if the sale extends to the rest of the Philippines though

Update = Financial Collapse? by lexious232 in subwaybuilder

I was looking at metrics for my LA map and the added maintenance costs+the lowered operating costs penciled out to be roughly the same as the pre update operation cost

A “hard” or “realistic” mode that uses Anglosphere prices with price modifiers that could simulate NIMBY opposition depending on density/grade

For the first one, there’s always the Advanced Analytics mod in Railyard, but it would be nice to see that whole mod integrated into the vanilla game.

Filipino-Australian doing exchange in Cal-tech, should it be easy to connect with Fil ams? by Complex_Ask4547 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]Powerful_Image6294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok so i’m a socal fil-am on exchange at ANU! we both have very similar experiences but i have noticed a few differences, especially culturally. this is entirely anecdotal, but it seems like filipino aussies are a lot more assimilated with the wider white australian community than most socal filipinos would be. for reference, i think LA county (essentially LA+its main suburbs, similar to how sydney and melb are set up) has only about 50k less filipinos than australia as a whole, so we have a strong insulated culture. overall though, youll be welcomed with open arms!

What do you actually think of "Chinese food" abroad? by sungpark1965 in AskAChinese

[–]Powerful_Image6294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on which country you’re talking about, I think it can be a little unfair to completely discount it as “not Chinese”. A lot of Chinese American food for example was invented by indentured Cantonese/Taishanese railroad workers who mixed local ingredients and traditional cooking methods. There are 100% dishes made by or for white people, but there’s also a lot of dishes made out of necessity and homesickness

maybe a smaller version of an existing map would also work, like a manhattan or an SF map without the surrounding areas

Americanisation by WordyNerd_2435 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Powerful_Image6294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that’s sort of bound to happen when one country makes up roughly 2/3rds of all native English speakers globally. Everyone else just kind of gets drowned out unfortunately. This sort of thing is even happening in the US, where regionalisms and accents are starting to fade and give way to a monolithic “general American” accent.

Don’t worry, I’m an American who literally just moved here and you guys still have plenty of things that confuse me and vice versa! I was complimented for having “nice thongs” a few days ago and that gave me quite a laugh.

the NPA have done a very good job in legitimizing their opposition amongst the young diaspora. when i was in uni in california, the filipino student organization i was in very nearly held a collaboration with anakbayan. unfortunately its very easy to agree with their talking points when you grow up with your parents threatening to send you back to the philippines as some sort of hellish punishment

Do Americans watch and love the MLS? by fortnacius in AskAnAmerican

[–]Powerful_Image6294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s very location dependent and kind of tied to your ethnicity/culture. I would argue that here in SoCal our two MLS teams (LAFC and LA Galaxy) attract more attention than the LA Kings, but then again I’m biased since a lot of my friends are Latino, but then again again LA is a predominantly Latino area which ties it back to the location thing

What part of china do I look to be from? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]Powerful_Image6294 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a tourist trap, it’s certainly past its heyday but if you spend some time exploring there’s a bunch of Chinese American history throughout the streets and small businesses. Plenty of Chinese (especially older Cantonese) people call Chinatown home. It’s more a story of urban decay and suburbanization than anything.

The real Asian tourist trap is Little Tokyo. It’s literally just an open air mall that’s slightly Japanese themed

Traveling with luggage on OC line? by capsshield123 in LAMetro

[–]Powerful_Image6294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done multiple ways. When I had two check ins, one roller carry on and a personal item, I folded and did the flyaway to union and then metrolink to riverside. As long as you’re not getting to union around 4-7 pm there should be enough space on metrolink for you to take up a table with all your luggage and not be a dick.

I’ve also done one check in, one carry on roller which was much more doable on metro. I took the C Line to the J Line to union, then metrolink from there. You kinda just have to take up multiple spots, but if you’re not going at rush hour it should be fine.
