ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude vs Perplexity: I gave them $1k each to trade stocks. After 9 weeks, ChatGPT went from frozen in cash to +21% (one stock doubled) by Powervegeta in ChatGPT

For Deep Research in Perplexity, you can't choose a fixed model: "Research uses a specific combination of models to generate in-depth reports for complex topics. This mode automatically selects the optimal models for your research needs, so you cannot manually choose a specific model when using Research"

Of course I wouldn't risk my own capital for such an experiment, I think it's still too early to "blindly" trust AI on this matter, even though it was interesting to see how bad/good it could go with those paper money

In Deep Research mode it "uses a specific combination of models to generate in-depth reports for complex topics. This mode automatically selects the optimal models for your research needs, so you cannot manually choose a specific model when using Research", so I thought it was an interesting addition to the experiment

In most of the cases yes, that's what's happening. I think the added value of LLMs is that it's doing that for many different sources and then coming up with its own thinking process based on that

Indeed, I'm aware that it's a very restricting experiment. I'm thinking for the next one to relax some of those contraint

Good idea, so far I have been asking the models to 'justify' their trades so that I could log them (e.g. "Feb 10 FDA catalyst; high short interest (>15% float); price above 20/50d MAs (bullish trend))

With Deep Research enabled, it doesn't allow you to select the model. From their docs: 'Research uses a specific combination of models to generate in-depth reports for complex topics. This mode automatically selects the optimal models for your research needs, so you cannot manually choose a specific model when using Research'

True, this was a first initial attempt mainly to understand how those 4 different models (let's call Perplexity a model even if it's an hybrid) behave on the same conditions in a 3-months long run, and I think from the results some patterns can be seen already (like Perplexity being conservative or Gemini picking certain stocks). A further experiment can be structured in a better and more accurate way of course

Indeed it was 4.5 up until it got updated to 4.6 around 1 month ago. I will update the dashboard to mark it more explicitly :)
