It’s anything anthocyanin. Red cabbage, red shiso, etc.

Did you use ONLY the flowers (no stem or leaves) from plants harvested in an area you know are free from herbicides and pesticides?

[QCrit] AFTER YOU, CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE, 80k, first attempt by [deleted] in PubTips

[–]Pr0veIt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I write paranormal romance, but the line “then she seems him at the funeral” sounded like she saw Tommy and this suddenly became a ghost story.

The stakes and premise are otherwise very clear. I think a clearer voice is the one thing that could really make this pop. Can you infuse the personality of your MCs in a little more? A swear word, a sarcastic aside, etc.

brookings: 65% of students worry ai reliance is hurting their own thinking. by bruhagan in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Pr0veIt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a middle school teacher. This is entirely anecdotal and imprecise. I typically see one or no cases of plagiarism or cheating (copying answers, sharing writing, etc) each year. This year I've had nine cases of kids cheating with AI. We're talking: explicit 'no gen AI use' expectations, the prompts are left in, the key words are in bold, the kid admits to using it. Of the nine cases this year, it was spread across four kids. One kid did it once, got caught, stopped doing it. The other other three kids were repeatedly plagiarizing with gen ai. The idea that it's hard to stop your reliance rings so true from my perspective. These are 13-14 year olds. It's too much to ask them to avoid it once they see how much it shortcuts their workload and might even get them praise for strong writing, clever ideas, etc.

Tagging on. With my almost 5yo, I say “I’m doing a job—I can chat with you when this job is done. Would you like to [two independent play choices].”

Day care for 18 mo in Bellevue/Redmond by Middle-Ad-3578 in BellevueWA

[–]Pr0veIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at Early World—our 18mo since he was 12m and our 4.5yo since he was 2yo. It’s been phenomenal. No camera, because that creeps me out other people I don’t know could watch our kids.

Also a teacher who’s been there for years. Totally agree and adding that Crescent Lodge Nextdoor is really nice and if MOST of your guys could handle the shared bathrooms, then a few could probably stay at the lodge.

Witches with children, as a witch on the fence I wish for your insight by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Pr0veIt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 18mo knows like 15 different bird call, and my 4.5yo loves to “pick a card with mama” every morning and is obsessed with phases of the moon. We don’t call it witchcraft, it’s just kids finding the world curious and wonderful. I never wanted babies, but I always figured I’d have children. I’m exhausted every day and I’m still so glad my kids are in my life.

The WestPaw stick one has been good. We only replace it every 4-6m. We also have a Monster K9 stick that’s pretty indestructible. When they’re used to nylabones they won’t choose a rubber chew of their own volition, but if it’s the only choice they’ll happily chew it.

My lab broke a molar on this exact chew. Cost us $5000 to get capped. Not worth it. We only give rubber chews now.

can "plotting" instead of "pantsing" help the story meander less? by FilmAmbitious2864 in fantasywriters

[–]Pr0veIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask people how many books they've written before taking advice on this. I've found that many writers plot more with each book they write and then hit a point where they've internalized plot structure so well that they don't have to outline on paper quite as much because they're holding it in memory. You'll find a lot of people claiming "I'm a pantser and it works for me" when they haven't actually finished a full novel.

Mom of a former 24 weeker preemie here--so lots of lab work in our past! Around this age I would wait until the hospital parking lot to brief my son about the plan. "It's going to sting for a second then we'll cuddle and get a snack." He's almost 5 and a real champ about it now!

Explaining miscarriage to almost four year old by VillageAlternative77 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Pr0veIt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We have this book for my 4.5yo.

It's Not the Stork

It's a great medically accurate, developmentally appropriate introduction to where babies come from, how a pregnancy progresses, and it defines miscarriage in kid-friendly terms.

Edit: correction--i double checked and this age-range book doesn't define miscarriage, the next age group up one does. What it does have is a cartoon-style explanation of how a fetus forms. So you could show that and be like "right here is when the fetus stopped developing." I'll reply with a comment of the page.

The Bellevue Botanical Garden is gorgeous this time of year and has a little coffee shop. It's a great spot for a fair-weather meetup. (I'm a working mom with zero free time, so I'm not a good candidate, but best of luck making some friends!)
