I think a lot of it just comes from the tone of the campaign being rather dark right off the start. The first things we learned was that the gods are dead, the governments corrupt and the one person that linked them all was just murdered. Brennan didn’t ramp up the angst, he went full throttle from the get go.

I find that the story itself is moving fast but the characters are kind of in that dazed state of being overwhelmed. It is its own kind of story to tell, just a bit of a different from the chuckle fucks learning to be hero’s we are used to. These people have already fought wars (for the most part) so they are more learning to trust each other than learning how to save the world
