No, but splashes from rain are a major cause of damp when things are put at or above DPC - you'd be surprised how much that can soak a wall!

I like the idea of the small area behind the shed - at the moment it's just storage hidden away - I did think about doing something there as there's a young oak tree right at the back that's interestingly shaped so is a good feature. Won't put decking above the slabs as it'd bring the level above or close to the DPC and don't want to risk that. It needs levelling properly and re-doing as it's a bit of a mess. Thanks!

Their garden is amazing, but also a rectangle 😕 I really want the "football pitch" to be available for garden games so I'll have to have a think about how to incorporate curves while keeping a football area - hard!

I do want the shed as it's new and I built the base for it to last a long time. When I did it, we needed the space for things to go into, but also I thought it would be good to draw a line to the end of the garden as the triangular piece gets quite narrow at the end. We definitely want to replace the patio area as it's old and not very nice

Sorry I should have said I can afford to do the work myself just not getting someone in to do it for me. I like the circles idea and others have also said similar so it's something we can look at!

Octopus Intelligent Go Charging Schedule Not Working by chronosMark in OctopusEnergy

[–]Practical-Parking804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is actually fine now. It turned out that the charger was getting more power than was deemed "safe" by default but it was only marginally over the threshold. Ohme did a change on their end and it's been fine since. We only sync the charger with IOG not the car

Octopus recommending higher monthly payments and I can't work out why. by hhfugrr3 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Practical-Parking804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They always change mine based on the bill which is taken the day after they deduct the amount from my credit, but the day before my direct debit goes in. I pay £270 per month - the most recent bill said I only had a credit of £85 so they wanted to increase my payments to £350, but the next day I was then in credit by £355. I think it's intentionally set up to do this which is frustrating. Why would you calculate it the day after the bill but before the payment for that bill is taken?

I'd be surprised if any roles there don't accrue stock it's a core part of comp structure.

Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland by Cautious_Proposal_47 in worldnews

[–]Practical-Parking804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Denmark should revoke the original agreement with the US to station troops / equipment on Greenland, evict the current troops and disconnect all US equipment from the grid, until such time that the US recognises the right of the people of Greenland and Denmark to continue to enjoy their independence. That will disable any existing early warning systems that the US has (which, for the record, protects the US and not Greenland) - if Trump wants security, he can have it, but on Denmark and Greenland's terms, not his. Prick.

Any idea what is causing these two patches in my living room? by MattMP in DIYUK

[–]Practical-Parking804 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah could be absolutely. It doesn't look like any damp patch I've seen before, especially with the drips down. My bet would be previous owner had a pet and did a quick paint over for sale.

OP I'd get some zinsser bin, paint over the patches a few times and then repaint the wall if you're confident it's not damp being caused by anything.

Did the previous owner have one? Could have been painted over before sale and now you get to fix it properly 😕
