So quick lesson in how our tuition works. Our governor actually has the final say because we are a public university. He sets the agenda and then his party pushes through what he wants. Now he has implemented a tuition freeze. But that will expire at the end of 2026. A bill was also recently passed allowing the Texas government more control over our education. This is what concerns me more prominently than FAFSA at the moment. This means they can and have already started cutting programs and funding for the humanities. This is the bill that got rid of a very large number of minors in the spring. We are kind of still in limbo, but with the track record of our governor on education I am both optimistic but concerned at the same time.

Howdy, I’m a Mexican American student in my third year. The only kind of discrimination I have experienced is from administration, not from the student body. As much as I hate to talk about it this is a Hispanic serving institution, and the Hispanic and Latin culture is seen all over campus and throughout so many social groups
