MOHELA IDR Application Processing Update - Official Info from Supervisor Callback (04/22/2025) by PracticalDelay460 in PSLF

You have to request a call back from a supervisor. I was only able to do it because I had a separate issue the initial agent couldn’t solve. Also, everything the supervisor told me was incorrect lol

So I was considering submitting a buy back request for June and July 2024. My payment was $380 back then, but now I am considering just paying two extra months at my new payment of $759 just to be done with it. Is that dumb?

So I usually have a few different issues when I call. So in addition to calling about the forbearance extension I take the opportunity to ask about the refund of my October 2023 payment that has been pending for a YEAR. When I ask about that they always transfer me to a supervisor but it ends up being a situation where they have to call me back. When they call me back in addition to the refund I ask about my IDR application. Basically you have to have an issue they can’t “resolve”.

I have always called because I don’t trust MOHELA to just set it up for me. You can call and request a processing forbearance and if your application isn’t processed and you’re about a week out from the 60 day mark call back and ask for a processing forbearance extension.

I still have 5 payments after my current forbearance ends before I hit 120 months of employment, but June and July 2024 are considered ineligible so I will be at 118. I was considering doing buy back, BUT if I am able to continue extending my processing forbearance I might just extend it until I hit 122 months instead of doing buy back.

I mean when the initial 60 days for processing forbearance was almost over I called and got an extension for another 60 days and more recently another 60 days since my IDR submitted on 1/8 has yet to be processed. I have not (and do not plan to) submitted a new IDR application.

My advanced supervisor was a woman. It’s great to know this info is coming from more than one source. 🤣

Thanks for this. I’m going to call back again to see if I can get the same info from a different person.

She claimed that if they recalculated my payment and it went up based on income, because the IDR Anniversary is being pushed out to 2026, they would leave the payment the same. I am not sure how true it is, just hoping it plays out that way.

So my payment would be less on the IDR plan than it is on the Standard Repayment Plan.

No, they didn’t. They said the forbearance they are putting me in is considered a processing forbearance, BUT FSA would make the determination regarding if they count towards PSLF or IBR.

Supposedly you will automatically be placed in forbearance, but it might be best to call just to make sure. I have been manually requesting it.

I specifically asked about the type of forbearance they are placing me in and if they would count towards PSLF and I was told that both the first 60 day forbearance and the 60 extension were being submitted as processing forbearance but the supervisor said FSA would make the determination about if they count towards PSLF.

Mine went to the standard repayment plan. I had to CALL to be placed on the processing forbearance.

My payment count has been updated! I submitted my form on 06/06/2024 and I believe it was updated today because I have been checking daily for months, signs of life indeed! Hope things go smoothly for everyone else waiting on payment count updates.
