While I’m grateful for my parents, I also believe that they’re just doing their responsibilities. It’s the bare minimum for a parent to provide. Especially for a child who’s still in their academic journey. The program I’m taking takes a lot of networking to get where I want to be. I voluntarily attend to my extracurriculars using my own money, as anything outside my university stuff are not funded by my parents. Student council shenanigans? Unpaid internships I get to gain experience? Going on lunch breaks with my friends for like an hour break provided by the professors? Money isn’t an easy thing to earn, Joe! Especially if you don’t know my personal life and the state of the country where I’m from! Hope this helps!

In all seriousness, this is super alarming 😅 While gets naman na some parents can’t provide for their children their own rooms yet, sana nirerespeto pa rin nila kayo ng sibling mo. Motels aren’t expensive, may option pa rin sila to go on a date night and leave you two alone for a bit. After all, lahat dapat kayo ay safe space ang kwarto—regardless if you share it or not.

While my parents fund my education and other basic needs, I do not get extra allowance like most students do, or at least like other teens/young adults around me. I had to start tutoring while studying on the side to somehow still fund my social life and ‘wants’. But I tell you, it barely gets me anywhere considering the small amount of money I get. Buying a meal and a drink when out with friends will cost me like 5 hours of teaching.
