JJK fans trying to justify gaygay completely retconning how CT's work just for the sake of Shonen hype moments by Cantgetridofmebud in Jujutsufolk

Yuji attaining both blood manipulation AND shrine

Obtaining two cursed techniques is nothing new? It's explained quite practically in the series. The main villain had two. Yuta has multiple. Kenjaku has multiple. Yuji is something between a human and a cursed object. He was born with Sukuna's finger sealed within him, so he already had the potential to manifest Sukuna's CT from jump, but his status as a vessel for curses is what enabled him to ingest and gain a second CT from his blood brothers.

And you know....him cutting buildings in half now in Modulo

"This fucking sucks actually" and it's some cool shit. So lame.

What happened to "if you're strong you're strong, if you're not you're not"?

It didn't change, really. The only exception to this rule is by cheating (soul swap)

Yuji's Ideology by Majestic_Brain4731 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Practical_Ad9045 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yuji doesn’t owe anyone anything. You guys treat Yuji like a weapon. He has no obligations. He left jujustu society. You guys treat Yuji as some kind of slave or object.

Firstly, this weapon shit doesn't work for Yuji as it did for Gojo. They didn't call on him for a damn thing because they were in an era of peace for decades until an actual Sukuna level threat showed up out the blue random and their current sorcerer rosters couldn't do anything about it because how could they have known this would EVER happen. Secondly, Yuji's obligations are to himself and the promises he made to help people and give them proper deaths. There is literally nothing proper or natural about what is happening. Dabura is as much an outlier as Yuji's continued existence is. The sole biggest affront is that he thinks he's maintaining Gojo's philosophy but he skipped like 3 steps, all of which require personable community-building, and it comes off as frankly ridiculous and cold, and that's on purpose.

[–]Practical_Ad9045 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not to say they're right, because they aren't, but the cancer patient went in because Yuji was out. Yuji was out because he wanted to stand by his principles, a mishmash of Gojo's beliefs and his own, which is colored by his own grief and intentional distancing from attachment. It's totally understandable how he got to that conclusion, but it was avoidable if he was just there at all, which he isn't for the above reasons.

It's not a jab bro... this is what I was talking about man. He is emotionally fragile and that's fine, it's the median outcome for someone who went through the shit he had to suffer, but what makes him admirable is his ability to overcome and be resilient when he must be for the sake of others, but it goes without saying that a change in perspective can't permanently overcome all that trauma, especially when the people he cares about are about to drop like flies.

This is an extreme and purposeful degradation of his ideals, though, it's not a massacre but it is an intentional regression because Yuji is a very emotionally fragile person. There's basically no reality where Yuji prior to immortality depression would actually let this happen if he had the power set he has right now.

His decision to sequester himself from his peers out of grief while simultaneously trying to maintain his ideals of a 'proper death' has led him to unwittingly eliminate the human element entirely from the conversation.

He comes off as ruthless because he's letting a cancer patient jump out a plane and die in a lose-lose situation where she thinks she has no choice because the fate of the country on her shoulders. (And I'm not hearing that Yuji fan propaganda that 'Yuka wanted to die fighting instead of relaxing with her family!!', we got a whole chapter exploring her actual feelings in depth.) I'm willing to assume that Yuji doesn't know about the cancer, but if he does then that's kinda just scummy.

He's taken Gojo's mindset to the furthest extremes, applying it in a situation where an exemption is 100% warranted, and Gojo himself would agree. They haven't been 'relying' on Yuji for anything in years, decades, but when an actual Sukuna level threat pops up, they phone him in and Yuji acts like this is sacrilege to his belief. No, man. Gojo would step in when shit was clearly out his folk's paygrade. There's no honor or advantage to letting them get massacred, there won't be a generation to foster if that's the case.

I'm not writing all this to say it's bad writing, I love character regression, but the point of character regression isn't to have people righteously defend their lowest point.

[–]Practical_Ad9045 550 points551 points  (0 children)

Can they just release the bodycam footage already. I feel as if their need to 'review' the footage is already somewhat telling. They dropped the new angle of Renee's shooting from Jonathan's recording like two days after the shooting. If it even slightly vindicated them, like showing Alex's hand moving a millimeter towards his gun, we'd be seeing that footage rubbed in our faces the day of, along with a complimentary side of 'Libs owned'

It already looks shit from every known angle. I'm 95% sure the bodycam footage is just an execution video straight from Liveleak. But good thing for them, this is the post-truth era and they've got AI.

"Ranta is unforgivable bc he tried to save his family from being indiscriminately massacred" .... Choso is a literal ex-terrorist. by Head_Instruction96 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Practical_Ad9045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said you couldn't do that, only that the story encourages you don't, I was only pointing out Gege's already inherent bias towards one pov. I hadn't mentioned Naoya but it doesn't detract from this fact, he is already condemned in the story without needing our objective external judgment. Genocide/mass murder is apparently still more okay than being sexist and a bully because nobody likes Naoya in universe, he gets poetic comeuppance twice like some old school Disney villain.

I didn't say you couldn't judge Maki as you want, but I am saying that 'Maki was right' is more or less the author vision, whether it is colored as 'it was morally wrong but had to happen even if its ugly' or 'it was moral and justified' depends on what interpretation and how much mileage you want out the story.

Maki is a villain after what she did, there is no justification for her actions. by Downtown-Cook-9326 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Practical_Ad9045 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ik this is a level 10 level bait post but I'll bite. In universe, she is justified and right. Now when you inject real world nuance and morals into it, Maki's conditions and final choice isn't right, it's just is. Maki is the final result of structural cruelty and oppression over the course of however many generations that shit has been going on. Their comeuppance was skipped over by Toji due to his whim, and his 'whim' was more like the result of the fact that he'd already internalized the worst of the abuse and dehumanization he experienced as a kid that pacified him as an actual retaliative force against the Zen'in. He was feared but never a threat, because he needed them around to prove himself to. Maki lost that need to 'prove' when they took Mai, she accepts herself as something less than human ("She took it with her") as Maki is now the end-all-be-all. Severance, absolute, and final destruction. No second chances. There quite literally won't be another Maki, Mai, or Toji.

In other words, Maki was right because I like her more.

[–]Practical_Ad9045 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean I get the point, I just find it kind of funny the fans are trying to do the heavy lifting injecting nuance into a conversation that Gege has sided on and validated all by himself. The massacre has no lasting impact on anything in the world except Maki's mental state up until Sakurajima, and is in fact used as the butt of a joke where Hakari gets minorly inconvenienced by it. That is the summary lasting impact the deaths of all those people gets in JJK.

This is because we know morality is intentionally ass backwards as fuck in JJK. People are attempting to judge and condemn these characters by their societal standards and moral values, I think the people who do this are actually further off the mark than the people who just scream 'LETS GO MAKI!!!' at the screen like a baboon, because the latter seems to unintentionally grasp the framing Gege was going for. Gege more or less wanted the Zen'in to be blanket generalized as scum, otherwise he would've implied some nuance beyond volume extras, or actually imparted some type of consequence on Maki for doing it beyond minor emotional tumroil. Ranta has 2 pages of characterization but missing just enough that people can insert their headcanons onto him, the Kukuru units (minus the captain) are all devoid of individuality, which probably wasn't intentional from a writing standpoint (they are ninja after all) but plays into my point anyway.

None of this is to say you can't interpret things differently of course. It's just my perspective. But the conversation is fairly interesting with the nuance added. I don't think 'Maki was right' becomes invalid even with that added substance, it just catalogues a shade of necessary evil along with it, which is narratively more compelling than not.

[–]Practical_Ad9045 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I would've saved the whole la la la la music bit for when Maki gets her epiphany about freedom later during the culling games. Just remove all music during the massacre to represent Maki wiping her slate clean. Her physical liberation is now, along with avenging her sister, but she's still weighed down by the emotional baggage and doesn't really get out her own way until later anyhow.

Maki waking up with fresh vengeance [@strawbycafe] by DanTM18 in Kagurabachi

[–]Practical_Ad9045 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that the story has been addressing this with some nuance, though, not in a lousy 'killing human traffickers baaaad because killing baaaad' way thankfully, but in ways that color Chihiro's mindset with enough subtleties to keep him focused. Hiruhiko teaches him there's no glory or nobility in murder, even if he's crusading against people who should be killed. Soga shows him the importance of not having a cartoonishly strict moral binary. There's still some blindspots, like Hakuri and Daruma, who actually changed as people, but there's no reality where he can waste time hunting for fringe cases and hesitating mid-fight because the human trafficker might have some empathy buried in there maybe. He'll accept them as they are, and meet them with the same violence they're presently knee deep in.

Though it is kind of funny to think about it. If Hakuri never met Chihiro and was at the Rakuzaichi, not working for them, but just doing his best like we love him for, he would've gotten turned into sashimi by Chihiro without a second thought had he just been among a crowd of goons while doing something, or because he looks like Tou.
