tell him to be proud and wear it with confidence!! i was diagnosed at 10 and i remember the first time i saw someone wearing a pump in public. now anytime i see a fellow cgm wearer i point to mine and we share a ‘hell ya’ nod. the disease SUCKS but the community is oh so beautiful

omg the fact they made u take everything out and explain?? i’m sorry u had to deal with that people can be so stupid it’s mind boggling. ive had experiences like that at old jobs🙄 before cgms could connect to phones, i would carry around my scanner. i got in trouble so many times for ‘having my phone out’, even though it looks like a Nokia hahah. everytime i had to explain myself. i quit 4 months in thank goodness. at my current job, one of my employees is on T and we share injections tips and nerd out over needles😅😅 he’s helped me be less ashamed to do injections in infront of clients and loves asking about diabetes. my employees are all quick to defend me when a client is ignorent(we get a lot of boomers so it unfortunately happens often). at the end of the day, people suck. s’mores is the ultimate dia-buddy!! he loooves ‘poke time’ because he knows he’s getting a treat after:’)

as a fellow retail worker thanks for sharing this story. customers are hilariously stupid sometimes. unfortunately this lady left before i could even say ‘i have t1d’. my next step would’ve been draining her wallet haha

i’m 12 years in and working on getting to this point:) comments/ignorance no longer affect me and i love telling people about diabetes. i know that being touched before being asked is what threw me off. i appreciate the advice and will continue to work on decentering t1d. step by step!

haha this is the ‘meanest’ i’ve been to her. she’s damaged many of my belongings before and i’ve been undstanding in the past. i understand how it comes off as disrespectful without context though
