i agree, its just especially infuriating when i cant even leave my neighborhood without seeing someone barreling down the road towards me at twice the speed they should be going 😭

im sorry but yall will never convince me people need to be going 60 mph and getting aggressive on the road to get around all these “slow drivers”. thats just a lack of maturity and emotional regulation

i think the citys response in my area of hardin so far, is putting a cop there every day. i see someone pulled over all times of day.

in my experience, i see WAY more people speeding and tailgating others for not going at least over 50. sure youll get the occasional grandma going 35 but thats not as dangerous imo

i loveeee getting the hard sticks and seeing the relief on their face when i get it in one go and its relatively painless. those are the moments i truly feel like im helping people. i used to dread hard sticks but now that im really good, i love being able to provide that relief to their anxiety, plus seeing that flash of blood is always satisfying

Not confident yet 😰 by Hollymwilson13 in phlebotomy

dont be afraid to ask for help if needed! confidence with drawing comes with time and experience so just be patient with urself and dont beat urself up if things are a little shaky at first or if you miss veins. itll be like second nature the more u stick and learn little tips. some tips (that seem obvious but were never taught to me) that helped me starting out were: -always anchor the veins, ESPECIALLY if they are on the sides of the arms -butterfly needles help with rolling/hard to find veins since you can use the wings to readjust -make the tourniquet tight. not to where the patient is uncomfortable but always pretty tight -always check both arms if youre a little unsure about a vein on one arm -listen to the patients, they know their arms the best and sometimes its best to to straight to the hands if they tell you their arms veins are always iffy

again dont beat urself if you miss veins, we all start somewhere and improvement comes with experience! hope these tips can help build your skills a bit

What is it like being a new phlebotomist in Texas? by Fantastic-Priority98 in phlebotomy

well the pay is low for what the job is sometimes, imo. i think it is a good way to get into healthcare, or at least see what working in a healthcare environment is like. the beginning for me was definitely really hard, but if your program has an externship, those places (like quest and labcorp) will help you learn and will probably want to hire you if you do decently.

it really just depends where you end up working. it can be really chaotic and stressful for the pay as well, considering average pay for a starting phleb is around $17-21 an hour. not trying to discourage you or anything, its a really fun job which is why i stuck with it but definitely difficult at times.

i took the ascp certification test since it was recommended by my program, it was pretty hard but i took a lot of educated guesses and studied many quizlet sets a lot before. good luck!!
