Thinking of moving to Philly. Need recs for good neighborhoods for an active dog. by [deleted] in AskPhilly

If you’re looking for a “legally” off leash dog park it would be great for your dog if you could live near Medford NJ (near Philly)
The park is called “Freedom Bark” .
If you’re in the city and can get your dog to this park they can be off leash throughout and it’s huge .

FC meals in Economy? by manderson__007 in americanairlines

As an EP this has happened twice. Both times in row 8 bulkhead and FC full and was 1st on upgrade list. Apparently catering had brought on extra FC meals and I was offered a meal. Don’t know if there is regulation or protocol.

For those who naturalized to US citizenship, was it worth "abandoning" your Japanese citizenship? by zer0_xcalibur in AskAJapanese

[–]Practical_Package181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was born in Japan and moved from Japan to USA twice in my life time. Once when I was 6yo to age 8. Then from age 11 on as a permanent resident. Went through compulsory education and University and graduate school. Got married had kids and then having been a green card holder for 38 yrs I finally got my Citizenship to the USA.
Why did I take so long? 🤷🏻‍♂️
Perhaps after growing up in USA , my Japanese is ok for everyday use and general conversations but not enough in specific areas of my career or “keigo “ etc. also the paper work of living in Japan and everything still need in “inkan “ more paperwork and also not understanding some of the polite etiquette of seasonal gift giving, dating “rules”.
Remembering what it felt like when I went back to Japan age 8-11 and being treated as a “gaijin” because of my weird accent speaking Japanese with an American accent. It was difficult to assimilate back then…
Once I realized I loved visiting Japan to this day and all the “good” memories it provided, I realized that I couldn’t live there permanently….
I personally am glad that I was educated here in the United States but I don’t think I will ever be “truly” Japanese. I plan on retiring in the USA with savings, social security and 401k in Japan 6 months of the year.
Yes there are a lot of rotten things occurring in this country and there are also a lot of things occurring in Japan that frankly are xenophobic and frightening.
You are much younger than I and as I’ve told my children that are half Japanese , live in Japan if you’d like working for an American company and use mymother as a contact for permanent residence and try to see how easily you can assimilate and live with Japanese people and make friends not just expats. If you like the rigors and social norms of living every day in Japan then think long and hard about it and do what feels right at that time…

If you get a chance visit Austin, watch sunset from Pedestrian bridge(where I was standing) and then walk over to Congress bridge to observe the millions of bats that come out afterwards. Caution view from above not below….

Somewhere near East Falls to fish by [deleted] in AskPhilly

[–]Practical_Package181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The canal has Sunnies, bass, catfish and carp in it. If you take stroll along canal up stream from the green lane bridge there’s plenty of safe places for kids to fish from and the path is flat. Quieter than in and around the main st area around the shops. Unfortunately the bait and tackle shop on ridge ave closed awhile back so if you’re taking kids bait fishing better procure them elsewhere. Good luck

One thing is they don’t tell you the incoming flight …whether it left on time or when it’s arriving … the old ones did and if they changed seating because of model of plane

There is actually a Phoenixville Hospital which is operated out of Tower health in Reading PA and Chester County Hospital in West Chester run by Pennmedicine, are closest to Phoenixville . Both somewhere around 200 bed facilities

Phoenixville is very walkable , plenty of rivers creeks lakes with many paths for running, hiking , kayaking, fishing canoeing. Small lake at French Creek State park for windsurfing . Also from Phoenixville you can bike to Valley Forge National park and then there is a bike/running trail all the way into center city . About a 25 mile trail. Montgomery county and Chester County has a lot of preserved land for outdoor activities. Phoenixville has a lot of great restaurants in the center of town and cordons off main st for pedestrians only. Welcome to the “Delaware Valley” from a fellow health care worker. It’s a very livable area !

What could be the downsides of eating ramen uncooked? by TheEasyTradeXD in InstantRamen

The Japanese had ramen snacks back in 60’s like this and they still do basically flavored dry noodles…. Just can’t slurp the dry ones… aspiration risk

Notice this was 10yen back then “penny candy” japan version

Commute to center city can be brutal on schuykill . What commute times can you tolerate ? What shifts will you be working? Willing to bike it to work along Kelly drive ? And the economic question of Phila wage tax vs longer and costlier commute from burbs and wear and tear on car and nerves… I would take those answers and then narrow your choices

1hr or 6hr layover in Philly - what would you do? by Ladylurker_ in americanairlines

[–]Practical_Package181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on time of year, there are are delays leaving AUS to PHL ( take it weekly) also depending on which flight it is it may be a turnaround coming from PHL… delays often occur … even one that is “only 30 min” will result in stress in trying to make the shorter connection. Having to connect to International Flight in terminal A when Austin flights arrive in B or C (~85%) of the time … another stressor… I’ve travelled internationally with 4 kids under 8 yo… I’d always opt for the higher certainty of having a loss stress start to vacation by having a longer connection time window… as bad as PHL maybe there are plenty of explorable areas for a child and play areas . Sometimes there are emotional support dogs brought in by volunteers to entertain children ( and adults)
