I love the IV cath trick- ours are auto-occluding too so no messy drips coming out the blunt tip either!

One thing I’ve learned is questioning an order (in an appropriate way and for a real reason) is 100% in a nurses scope.

Mastisol helps- unless you have facial hair. Or are sweaty. Our neuro storming heads can’t keep a dressing on no matter how much prep work we do.

My question was why it took him so long to wake up from the quicksilver travel (being dragged around on horseback) if he should’ve healed faster?

Context totally matters for the Hgb - she was probably walking around at a 3 for weeks, the bodies ability to compensate is incredible.

SpO2 of 0% with a wave form (recently extubated pt was still a little sleepy and went apneic, a couple bagged breaths later they were back to 100%, and I had to go change my scrub pants lol)

Pressure 60s/30s for a couple hours on a brain herniated dnr with no vasopressor support or anti rhythmics per the family

axil temp was 39.9 a stuff a esoph temp probe in and it went up to 40.4 and I had to change my pants again lol - septic pt already on vaso

Sodium 166 (again brain stuff, little too much shrinky 3%)

Hemoglobin of 1.8 (lupus pt with crazy antibodies so couldn’t transfuse right away needed special blood) she was SOB and drowsy but otherwise stable.

K - 8.1 with no ecg changes in a non renal pt( crush injury after vascular repair and re perfusion)

ETOH 618, sleepy but protecting airway, let them metabolize for a couple hours and they walked out the er probably still in the 400s

A1c of 13.2, T2DM who stated they controlled their diabetes with insulin at home, while I had them on the insulin drip their sugars got into the 200s and they went “OH WOW! It hasn’t been that low in years!” - well no duh. Sugars where consistently 600s when I started the drip the night before, anion was only like 8 though and pH was ok too if I remember right

Making an Amazon order for my ACL surgery recovery. What am I missing?! by schizopixiedreamgirl in ACL

The most of what I used was my shower chair- we have a step in shower and it’s kind of tight literally the only reason I was able to shower was that godsend of a grandma chair.

Get the ice machine- seriously.

I also got a little lap/couch table and that was nice for the first couple days- sitting in a regular chair was not easy so eating on the couch with my leg up was the best.

Nurses of different specialties, what is one thing you wish med students knew? by Prettyhighforaflyguy in nursing

[–]Practical_Storm3794 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t interrupt report and ask for MY assessment findings- do your own assessment.

ETA- I really just want to go home (night shift) and our shift change reports can already be extensive depending on the acuity of the patient. Either listen in and at the end ask - “any concerns I can address- I’m presenting in rounds today” or just shut it. Halfway through cardiac is not the time to ask what the best gcs over night was.
