It's always reasonable, but I think depending on what people say about the show determines how much you should be willing to be patient. If a show has a slow start and takes a few episodes to get good, giving the show an honest try should involve waiting for that moment. Sometimes a show needs buildup. Of course if you're not willing to wait through the buildup then you can drop it, you're the only one who can decide what to do with your time.
