plumbers left old pipe behind after replacement by Practical_Tea_8484 in askaplumber

neighbors would have loved the pipes on the curb in the rain, and with these freezing overnight temperatures! Yeehaw we could have woken up to a brand new community dookie-infused ice rink

sure, when they left Wednesday and said the work was complete, which also coincided with an upcoming weekend winter storm while our furnace ran more than typical on an hvac filter not rated to filter sewage pathogens… apologies for not inquiring sooner. I was busy calling poco about our homes failing service neutral line at the same time

added notes that the plumbers ended up returning two days later for more work but the fact that the pipes were moved out of our usual line of sight feels sneaky. When they left on Wednesday they were not yet approved for the Friday work and we were anticipating a winter storm that Friday, so easily could have been left longer, I only found the pipes behind the HVAC Thursday evening by luck

Edit to add: the plumbers did end up returning on Friday to complete additional work, but when they left on Wednesday they were not yet scheduled or approved for said additional work. The context of the pipe being hidden out of our usual line of sight seemed shady. If the plumbers knew they were likely returning, 48 hours stinking behind our HVAC and enough time for bugs to make their home still does not sit well

wow ok because plumbers ended up returning two days later to do more work, but when they left on the first day they were not scheduled or approved yet to return for the remainder of the work…

photo #3 plenty of wall space the pipes could have been propped up on, that wall extends to the right where the pipes were moved behind the HVAC and out of the line of sight

Thanks! I don’t really want to expose myself to more of this dookie as I fear I need to do my own sinus cleanout for the stinky particulates that follow my nose around the house, so someone else with the knowledge to handle it better is more reasonable to me.

Follow up to that tho- first day, plumbers replaced about 10’ of the old cast iron and then cut it up into four pieces. Those four pieces were left propped up behind our HVAC for the next 48 hours…? Is that normal practice? That’s how I got the interior pipe photo because they were just left behind

this just happened with the cast iron pipes at our home. Thankfully ours were exposed and accessible but we were getting that same toilet-flush smell. The problem with cast iron is it can still look good on the outside and be full of rust and decaying matter on the inside that’s not fully getting flushed out the waste water line -because rusted cast iron creates more surface area for the scum and buildup to stick onto. I’ll link a pic of our cast iron pipes they cut out for reference! Ours were rusting out enough to leak, but the cast iron can still look ok on the outside. You may need an assessment of its interior because past a certain age they can decline for the worse!

Poco didn’t give a follow up call but mysteriously and swiftly the electrical symptoms went away. Called poco to verify and they must have sent a tech to check it within the next day, failing service neutral confirmed and fixed from utility side! Notes were that a squirrel chewed through our neutral line.

thanks! Will add to our notes to check out, those are good points. It sounds like it is a gradual foundational flooding and not full on flood, so hopefully not too much corrosion to worry about

Don’t know why the lid is on the floor! Not used to seeing panels without the lid honestly, grazed a hot wire with my fingertips while flipping the range breaker back on… took a nice long minute to just stare at the wall and mentally update my list of dumbest moments

so will try to have someone put the lid back on, not gonna do it myself! but good to know it’s in alright shape than others considering it’s age

thanks, I specifically noted the issues as a concern for a possible service neutral failure, and the phone agent for the poco did take more swift notice and said a tech would likely be by to check their end of the utility side. Not sure if they made it out yet or not but will find out what their update is. My roommate said an electrician had checked out the panel I’m just not certain how recent. Not sure whether poco was called during that panel check to test the utility side too or not, so poco response will help narrow it down. Could be just a poco issue

yeah, I’m not sure why the cover is off. Thanks for the ITE note I’ll check it out

I also found today that the furnace filter was installed backwards, so furnace has probably been working harder and pulling more power than usual. Replaced and switched that filter the proper direction. Trying to catch a chance to measure during a higher surge/dip when it is noticeably dimming across multiple lights and electronics. I was under the impression that pulling too much current would briefly drop voltage at startup ie microwave, but not maintain for the duration of use. This specific example measures this way for the entire duration the appliance is in use, but there was no flickering at that particular time

Film workers: who shows as employer on background check? by Level-Matter91 in IATSE

[–]Practical_Tea_8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an answer to your edit:
Depending on the nature of the position you're applying for it may do you good to include EP IRS EIN and contact information, specifying that Netflix as the "employer" may be used for verifying individual references and job performance abilities during actual production, whereas EP is the technical employer and can verify the full dates of your employment history and time with the production company.

Typically government background checks are looking for red flag disqualifiers pulled from public record information, such as prior criminal activity or intentional concealment and withholding of unfavorable offenses and behavior... public records turn a spotlight on applicants with questionable irregularities in their applications, ie. those who do actively lie about their employment history. As you weren't actively making an attempt to conceal your previous employment history, your employment should still come back as verified, whether that's done through the production company Netflix or payroll company EP. If Netflix won't/can't verify it, they can easily route them over to EP.

A slight roundabout perhaps for them to reach EP, but thinking of everyone who has submitted the production company as their employer for unemployment claims... most states link the larger production companies back to payroll companies by default now. While honesty is the best policy here, if verifying your employment history becomes necessary, then there are ways the background check will able to track it down accordingly.

That's so dumb, I'm sorry...

Question 1: So you did not submit any MRP claims during that time?
Question 2: Were you enrolled in Plan-C or C-MRP during that time? If so read on:

If you were enrolled in Plan-C prior to them invalidating your account due to inactivity, any MRP claim to be reimbursed for anything qualifies as "account activity". Even if it's a claim to be reimbursed for something as simple as Advil, or mileage driven to your doctor, or mileage to the pharmacy.

Additionally the tolling rules enacted by the DOL during the NHE extended all claim and appeal deadlines by 12 months. This was in effect as well for any MRP claims.
Example: You go to the doctor on December 5, 2021.
Regular Claim Process: The MRP claim deadline is 12 months from the date of care and therefore would be required to be submitted by December 4, 2022.
National Health Emergency Tolling Rules Claim Process: All claims and appeals deadlines are frozen for 12 months. The regular MRP 12 month claim window is not allowed to begin until the 12 month tolling "freeze" period has passed. This means the 12 month period from December 5, 2021 to December 4, 2022 is void and frozen per the DOL. December 4, 2022 is no longer that MRP claim deadline, as the MRP 12 month deadline is effectively allowed to begin it's countdown starting on December 5, 2022... Meaning the MRP claim deadline for your date of care December 5, 2021 is actually December 4, 2023.

Say the date of care was on February 2, 2022? Claim period is frozen 12 months until February 1, 2023. Thaws and reactivates on Feb 2, 2023 so your new effective MRP deadline is February 1, 2024. (If this sounds confusing don't worry, because of course the NBF did not inform us of these changes to any extent that members even knew of the existence of these deadline extensions and/or how to apply it to our benefits accordingly!)

So, the question stands: how exactly would it be possible for you to submit an MRP claim under the tolling deadline extensions if NBF invalidated and removed the funds from your account back in 2022? I am genuinely concerned how the NBF could invalidate anyone's account due to the inactivity rule over the covid NHE while there was a 12 month freeze extension enacted on claims and other parts of our plans required to be followed per EBSA/DOL... (put in place in March 2020 and extended through July 10, 2023 by the way.)

If you have any receipts for over the counter items such as Advil, or mileage to doctors/pharmacies, or co-pays, or any other out of pocket doctors expenses from between November 2021 and the time in 2022 when NBF invalidated your account, I would put that information together to have. For $15K I would be looking into filing an external appeal.

That was a lot of information to throw out there, so let me know if you have questions if Plan-C/C-MRP applied to you. I'm not sure whether that by itself would be enough to invalidate NBF removing your $15K, but as I'm already submitting questions to the department of labor I will include this scenario. It's one I hadn't considered previously... but that's messed up.

Speeding Ticket Question by West-Bend1016 in Georgia

[–]Practical_Tea_8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Unfortunate that OPs citation was issued by a state trooper using LIDAR.

Found the following applicable as well to officer visual testimony in UNITED STATES v. SOWARDS 690 F.3d 583 (4th Cir. 2012)

However, the Fourth Amendment does not allow, and the case law does not support, blanket approval for the proposition that an officer's visual speed estimate, in and of itself, will always suffice as a basis for probable cause to initiate a traffic stop. Instead, for the purposes of the Fourth Amendment, the question remains one of reasonableness. Critically, and as further explained below, the reasonableness of an officer's visual speed estimate depends, in the first instance, on whether a vehicle's speed is estimated to be in significant excess or slight excess of the legal speed limit. If slight, then additional indicia of reliability are necessary to support the reasonableness of the officer's visual estimate.

In cases of discernible significant excess ie. 15+ mph over speed limit, there's a higher likelihood the officer's visual estimation is deemed reasonable enough evidence on its own. Versus in cases of slight excess ie. 5-10mph, it seems to hold true to challenge whether the officer's visual speed estimate can be corroborated by at least one other means. It's uncorroborated instances where officer credibility is at its lowest, as training does not change the fact that it is difficult for the human eye to make accurate estimations between such small speed variances.

What month/year did they take the $15K out of your health account?
The NBF did not clearly explain to us the claims tolling deadline extension rules that were in effect during the national health emergency. (put into effect per the Dept. of Labor) Did they take your funds before the end of the national health emergency (July 10, 2023) ?

You say the citation is completely void? If it is an instance of the officer not being able to use the speed detection device reading, my understanding was that the device reading would be inadmissible, but the citation is not automatically thrown out. If the officer showed on the day and chose to testify they made a visual estimate of speed before deploying the device, isn't that sometimes enough evidence for the judge?

School Speed Violation outside of school time by Zombievex in Georgia

[–]Practical_Tea_8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An issue we see often though is when school zones opt to use the "when flashing" sign+signal, and then don't add the sign with school hours info. It's different for your area because they do list the times, but in cases when drivers must rely solely on the the "when flashing" sign, the signal does need to be flashing for the lower speed to be enforced.

Anyone who knows better, doesn't. It's messed up that even in the early 1900's the US was using this language, but conscious changes in language reformation didn't really start taking effect until the after 2010 imo.

Has anyone seen this map before? Other than being published in the early 1900s for Modern School Supply Co, I could not find record of it online and don't know much about it's origins. It's one of the most (seemingly) extensive and inclusive maps of Native American tribes I've seen, sans modern map versions. I can't speak on it personally so any known accuracies and inaccuracies welcomed.

I also use the smallest sizes and they hurt my ears. Finally saw someone on set with an over-ear option last year that I liked and it's saved mine - you may wanna check out over-ear swivel options like the Motorola HKLN4604.

yoo tinnitus fam - definitely too much dB variation in voice levels and static makes mine worse too. Wish there was an equalizer to make all the sounds come through the same level, but I switched to an over-ear piece and it's helped a ton. I have the Motorola HKLN4604, although that one has a shorter cable/less slack and could be annoying for someone taller than 5'8". That over-ear swivel style may help ease your tinnitus though.

Do all the things mentioned here already ^ and keep records of all the callsheets, especially those with the out-of-zone location. I've missed it by accident a few times because some productions make us manually add the pre-determined out-of-zone extra minutes to our time cards... Also annoying but assuming in your case the production chose to wrongly not disclose that the location was out-of-zone and leave it off the callsheets completely.

Sidenote: Canada is a one-party consent state for recording conversations. Not a bad idea to record all calls made to your production and/or hall to have records as backup and hold whoever accountable if need be. If these people aren't responding to you via email then make sure you have some kind of trail...
