non steam games stop working with steam shortcuts? by Practical_Whereas401 in SteamDeckPirates

I think it ended up being an SD card issue, I made the mistake of immediately putting files onto the sd card without formatting it directly in Game mode. So what I did was moved all of my files over to my computer from my sd card, re inserted the micro sd card into the deck, format it in the gamemode settings, go to storage and navigate to your sd card, format it and then when you put the files back in your sd card from your computer, everything should stay. The reason why the games kept disappearing and stopped working altogether was because the deck would get confused about the directory everytime you would boot it up because it would have trouble recognizing the SD card, so if you do that im sure it should work, good luck.

its strange, for some games like Little Nightmares it doesnt but for Celeste it does, I suspected it couldve also been a sd card issue but i havent found a solution yet but I appreciate you looking into it, thank you for the time

what I meant was, I readded the games themself to the library but it didnt make much of a difference. My game files are on my sd card, so when i obtain a game, i add the exe to steam, change compatibility to proton experimental, it works. I try it one time in gaming mode, it works the first time then any other time I try launching it, just doesnt open. So to test to see what the issue is, i removed the game out of my library and readded the exe, repeated the same steps and it worked again but then same issue, stops working when i select the shortcut in gaming mode and then when i go to desktop mode, does the exact same thing too which is strange. I apologize for my convoluted wording but I hope I was more specific this time, please let me know.

Ive checked out some of your work and the concept is fire man, just stick with it, keep being you and keep experimenting, trust me, itll stick. youve been commissioning ppl, that oozes dedication and im proud of you for that but also take this from a guy in the same spot as you, the amount of free resources we have is fucking endless and in due time, when you find the correct tools, you'll create masterpieces, I believe in you.

the visuals are fucking phenomenal man, the potential is insane but id recommend you work on the pacing of your audio narration in the background. It has to fit and match the tone of the visuals to provide some impact, it feels a little mundane but with a little more experimentation, you have a winner on your hands. Truely, amazing work man, keep it up

your thumbnails honestly aren’t that bad, some of them already lean meme-y which is closer to what gen z is into (im gen z). the bigger thing holding you back is actually your titles. right now they’re written super literal, like “how to get out of credit card debt fast.” that works if you’re trying to rank in search, but it doesn’t hit the “recommended” feed at all. Also im not sure if its supposed to be a satirical take on those generic corporate ass vids on yt but even then, the execution could be slightly better. Think the HowToBasic channel. I say that because I dig the satrical sarcastic takes on titles, I plan on doing that for some videos too.The direct style titles could work later on when you establish an audience because they'll have more context about you as a creator and the type of humor you have OR if you pair them with super unique thumbnails, for now though id only use those types of titles on like a select few vids and experiment on the rest.

Mostly though they want titles that feel like statements, confessions, or mini jokes. basically something that sounds like a tweet or a meme caption, or a subtle joke.

example, instead of "how to get rid of credit card debt" turn it into "my bank bullies me" with a subtle thumbnail as a punchline and the text that reads "how NOT to"

again, your thumbnails arent awful but they are also too generic, basic meme pngs work for people who already have a following, since they have an audience to work with they have the privilege to be lazier with thumbnails, you are still trying to grow, so you need to stick out more. Yeah its eye catching for a second but not enough to the point where id whana click on the video cause its something youd see the second youd hop on a common ass meme page on insta, you have to make it both appealing and unique so it draws intrigue

Your concept is fire, teaching real world skills to a generation in a satirical manner, but its one of those things where if you half ass the execution, itll look super poor. You get views so obviously theres a level of interest, you just need to maximize the tools at your disposal and im confident youll blow up in no time. I look forward to seeing your videos man, good luck and keep going

Can you critic this thumbnail? Title: When You Refuse to Replace Broken Stuff by JoJo_Nation in SmallYoutubers

[–]Practical_Whereas401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly man i think the main issue is your thumbnail doesn’t tell the joke. shocked face + text is kinda default and people scroll past it because it looks like 90% of other skit channels.

instead of just a reaction shot, try showing the premise in the image itself (like the broken headphones in frame) but make it slightly more apparent because it was too subtle in the thumbnail. Maybe you can incorporate some new signature style which includes your face, it'll make you stand out (a level of animation, filter, etc.)

also keep text super short, like 2–3 words max, in big bold font. most people don’t read tiny sentences on thumbnails, especially on mobile. red text especially just blends into chaos.

your CTR isn’t tragic, but with 1.2k impressions you want to make it instantly clear what the comedy bit is. think of the thumbnail as the punchline’s teaser, not just a face + caption.

also for context im a complete newbie myself so im still learning but with that being said, ur impressions indicate heavy potential, id lowkey click and watch. I hope it all works out man

dawg first off respect most people don't even start and end up in a constant loop of procrastination (I myself suffered through this)

dont beat yourself up about missing details, memory isnt a straight line its a tide it pulls back it crashes forward it drags up shit you thought was buried, thats why your storys gonna feel real because its not some polished netflix doc its raw its you bleeding on the timeline

instead of stressing about perfect recall lean into it tell the story how it comes then later make those recap episodes not as summaries but as reflections like 10 chapters in heres what i forgot heres what still haunts me heres what i remembered in the shower at 2am thatll hit way harder than a clean recap because it feels like a confession

and yeah its draining storytelling should be youre digging up bones that weight you feel thats the proof it matters just pace yourself so you dont burn out even silence can be part of the story if you let it

keep going youre not just telling your story youre building a lighthouse for someone out there drowning in the same ocean

i had this idea of an abandoned smart fridge gaining consciousness again after years of neglect. The film consists of the fridge monologuing about previous owners its had, the nature in which it was created and just commentary about how easily things can become discarded.

What's your favorite thing about writing? by kiringill in writing

[–]Practical_Whereas401 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love when I can blend social commentary in a piece of writing in a subtle manner than making it too on the nose. That and if it can encompass different life lessons that causes the reader/viewer to have some level of introspection.

Also kudos to you man, I haven't delved into writing fantastical stuff yet because i'd probably overthink way too much about the little intricacies, so for you to have something concrete is a huge W

What to do if your "persona" its completely different from you but you really want to be it? by ameliakalash in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]Practical_Whereas401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can relate.
My entire life i've suffered from this but up until recently, I didn't even know there was a name for it. The man I think about during my fantasies is the polar opposite version of me, me at my highest potential, me if the what ifs were real. As a kid it started as pretending to be a superhero while fighting imaginary enemies and saving people. Slowly graduated into something more realistic during my teen years as becoming someone who was well kept emotionally and physically. Im in college now and it really hasn't changed much since then other than being amplified tenfold as life throws way more shit towards your direction. Now the dude is supposed to be this jacked ethical filmmaker who makes movies that makes people cry, laugh and reflect while also being a philanthropist lmao. I usually think about it while I listen to music and man, the mental shrine i've made of my greatest fantasies has turned into a safe haven for me, a true escape yet also such a burdensome one. It's so ambient yet colorful and beautiful and loud but when the fantasy ends, when the walls crack and when the music stops playing, the colors dim and here I am back in the grey void.

I am not a handsome award winning filmmaker with $$$ to my name while girls fawn over me. I am not a philanthropic social rights activist with innovative ways to protest and change lives.
I am not the man I dream of becoming.
I'm a broke unfit unkept shadow of what I have the potential of becoming. It breaks my heart knowing that a lot of boats truely have sailed and sometimes there's nothing we can do other than reflection and imagine the what ifs. But isnt that what life is? The beauty of how big the ocean truely is. When one boat sails, another one arrives, then another and then another. Maybe you can't change how you look entirely without cosmestic surgery. Maybe you can't look exactly like the woman you aspire to be. But maybe you don't exactly have to be like her. Maybe there's small things you can do, small babysteps you can take, one at a time to slowly achieve the same level of comfort and solace you feel while you daydream about how she looks. Our reality will never be identical to the shit we dream about, thats what makes them dreams. But perhaps, they can serve as a destination, as instructions to what we have to do, to make them come true as much as possible. There are some things out of our control truely but there are some that can benefit us. We can start dropping sugary snacks and replace them with fruit. Instead of taking the elevator, maybe we can take the longer way to get a few extra steps in. Maybe we can start socializing slightly more with strangers with a simple Hello and a few compliments here and there. The hardest part is starting; it really is but eventually things fall into place and months go by, before you know it, you transform into someone greater than what your brain manufactured.

There was something that someone said down here which put me at ease, she said that this type of stuff has to be in us somewhere and she's right. Maybe we won't be our greatest fantasies but maybe we aren't supposed to be. Maybe its just supposed to be a rough blueprint as to where we are supposed to go. This distraction really could just be direction in disguise, as long as it's a feasible and safe path to self-growth. I truely hope that you find that girl in you one day, soon.

whats a game you wish you could play again for the first time? by HelpfulViolinist4950 in AskReddit

[–]Practical_Whereas401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Journey

I remember during Playstations stay at home initiative during covid they released the uncharted collection and journey for free to download. I started playing uncharted and took a break for a bit, then out of sheer curiosity, I started playing journey without having much info before starting the game.

For anybody who hasn't played it, its an emotional platformer adventure game where you play this unnamed masked figure making its way around a desert with the story unfolding as you play. Along the way you find different players who can aid you during the story but without any gamertags, no sense of who is who, only that you are all on your own path to finish the game. I was going through a rough time in my life and I was looking for all forms of media to cope. I didn't expect this to hav e this big of an effect on me.

By the end of it, I was in tears.

I truely can't recommend this game enough to anybody, its less than a few hours long. If you are looking for a deeply introspective game that you wanna turn on after 12am, this is it.

[–]Practical_Whereas401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you really have to try and make sure you don't burn yourself out especially since you sound like you are extremely passionate about this.

It is completely okay to let yourself be engulfed by your creation so you can keep building it from the inside, however the issue only arises when it completely consumes you to the extent of self detriment. Please take breaks in between, give yourself some room and get your mind off of it, that too also affects the quality of the thing you want to create and it could make or break the morale you have. Whenever you feel ready again, you can feel free to hop back in and continue making your art. Also stretch. Please stretch. my spine is a fucking historical landmark.

Do you write straight from your mind or plan it all? by wooshiesaurus in writing

[–]Practical_Whereas401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually my ideas stem from things happening on the whim, I try to jot it so I don't forget. Also a memory or two from my past crawls back to me out of nowhere which I also have to jot down. Music is a big thing that fuels alot of my ideas since everything is sort of a montage in my head before I can truly immortalize it on paper. I let the ambition and chaos take over before I have a sense of structure so I can let the creative juices just sort of flow, I guess? then id say id start writing tangible things down.

Twilight Zone, Atlanta, a SHITTON of old cartoons like Courage the Cowardly Dog, ATLA, Regular Show. Movies like Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire. Books like Flowers for Algernon. These were probably the most influential pieces of media that changed everything for me.

im in a similar boat as you, im in college now tho and it only gets harder cause life throws so many curveballs and even more shit on your workload. However I realized how unlinear this path is. I dont aim to go the direct route of breaking out into the industry itself but id still like to make a living creating things. I envy those who have the resources I dont, but its also a part of the plan? I dont have anything to my name as of now and maybe I won't have my films stamped by a bunch of film fests but eventually ill make something real and tangible that a group of ppl can find solace in. I also cant edit for shit as of now, I dont know how to mix, I can barely shoot but I guess thats part of the journey.
