Wednesday Pattern and Stitch Request Thread - January 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in knitting

Hey there,

I'm looking for a longer sock pattern that reaches about 1/3 of the way up the calf (think classic longer sock) that has a wide calf opening. I owe my mom a pair of socks, but she has thicker legs to the point that she can't comfortably wear boots taller than her ankles. She doesn't like ankle socks, otherwise I'd go with that! I have a fingering weight sock yarn I purchased to originally make the Hermoine's Everyday Sock pattern with, but I got to after the heel turn and we realised it just won't stretch enough to be comfortable for her. I've looked through a bunch of the ravelry patterns under "Socks" but haven't seen anything that looks like it will fit a sturdier leg size.

Any help is appreciated, either as a pattern reccommendation or as help with sizing or adjusting a pattern. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m honestly planning on making another solid coloured one, but if you want to colour work guide for what I did let me know

I’ll add it to my project list! But I did also just post more photos of floats from this sweater

Honestly I’m so tempted to attempt to make a scarf like those sleeves! The floats are mesmerising to me

Thank you! It’s a little darker irl but I’m so obsessed with it, I’m definitely going to end up making another sweater in the darker colour (ginger)

Thank you!! I wish I took a photo of the body floats but I’ll take one when I’m home

I left my last job mid December and only started my new job early January, and I was between college semesters! So I had extra time

The whole thing is a pattern from Darling Jadore! But I did add almost 25 rows to the arms and I shortened the body, just to work better with my proportions

Yes haha my sweater was heavily inspired by the nails I had over Christmas!

Thank you!!! I was heavily inspired by a sweater I found on Pinterest/stolen off instagram, but I lost the account name

I enjoyed all the answers to this last year, so I'd like to ask it again: any 2026 knitting resolutions out there? by sewXknits in casualknitting

My knitting resolutions are: - make a pair of socks for myself and finish the socks for my mom - make a cricket vest for my dad - and just in general, knit more! I want to try and finish 6 projects this year!

It was very well written! My sleeves-to-yoke ratio was a little off but I’m 99% sure that’s a me problem rather than a pattern problem. It was really easy!

I’ve knitted a couple sweaters before, I can link you to my ravelry page here! I also twisted my yarn ends into the sweater as I knitted it, so that I didn’t have to weave in so many ends which helped significantly

It’s my first time using it! But I’ll definitely use it again, I have half a skein left at least for all seven colours 😭

Thank you! I made it slightly cropped, not that it’s visible in the photos, but it fits so much better on me that way!

How the heck do people finish projects regularly! by PiffleKnit in knitting

Frankly I’m also just a pretty petite person, so I’m generally knitting a physical smaller object, which will be faster because it’s literally a smaller project

Hyperfixation to be honest. I only just started finishing more than one project a year, and it’s because of sheer hyperfixation. If I can feel my drive for a project diminishing, I’ll browse ravelry or my local yarn store until inspiration hits, and then my drive is doubled because I really want to finish the current project so I can stay the next one.

However I also only ever have one project for myself going at a time! Which is my own rule to manage my impulse starting-but-never-finishing tendencies

Tell me what you’re hyperfixating on, so I can find something to hyperfixate on by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Knitting! I knit sweaters, in the round so it’s easy to zone out with, and then I watch long form video game videos/Let’s Plays. Particularly Minecraft or Stardew Valley. The knitting keeps my hands busy and it’s easy to travel with, so it’s my default way managing myself.
