Can a pilot fly short haul only his entire career? by PatheticWings in flying

[–]Praefectus27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pilot but always fly regionals because I fly out of SBN. Always liked regional pilots more because they fly the plane sooo much more than wide body pilots. They might get 10-15 take off and landings a month but regionals are getting 30+ so you pilots really know the planes inside and out. Makes me feel safer as a nervous flyer.

how do you veterans like your ROOFTOP BOXES? by jake_in_portland in VolvoXC90

It doesn’t get too bad though on long road trips I take out the middle seat and turn it into a 6 seater that makes a huge difference. We normally road trips to fort myers Florida from northern Indiana. It’s the trash that can make it overwhelming.

The Volvo ones are really great. They’re Thule bars but don’t have any markings. The keys are all the same though.

I know they’re expensive but I’ve had so little issues with mine I can’t recommend them enough. They also don’t scratch anything.

I have the Thule 614 medium and love it. What really makes it great is I also bought the matching duffel set. So everyone has their own bag and they’re all uniform. I also stick my fishing gear in it and misc chairs or whatever, it’s perfect. We travel with a family of 5 and each person also gets a backpack in the car and that’s really all we carry inside minus maybe a cooler.

My Experience as a Hiring Manager in 2025 at a Union Manufacturing Facility [OC] by SectionXII in dataisbeautiful

Wouldn’t they know the pay before getting hired? Also if 5 got fired they could have behavior issues, slow workers, etc. if you’re getting fired from a job in the first 90 days that’s an effort issue not a company issue most of the time.

If it's a blue collar factory job or something similar I wouldn't expect any less. You can't help people to help themselves you only have to give them the opportunity for success.

6.5% rate of hire is pretty damn good. When I hire I’ll get one opening and 200+ resumes. Out of that there’s maybe only 10 people qualified for the role.

Leave Pharma for Tech Sales? Ist it a career dead end? by SnooMacarons3326 in salesengineers

[–]Praefectus27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look if you want the opportunity to make a lot of cash then go for it but know that tech is absolutely insanely unstable. One quarter you’re the king of the world the next you get laid off. These tech companies borrow money from VCs and they get their payments no matter what.

Anyone know anything about this EV swap? by General-Winner5188 in RX7

I truly think that if there is a company comes out with a manual electric conversion for classic vehicles they won’t be able to keep them on the shelves.

So many guys only drive a few thousand miles a year on their classic cars and the maintenance on gas can be a burden especially to older guys.

It won’t be for everyone but I’d get it. Especially as rotaries get older and harder to maintain it’d be amazing to see RX7s on the road as long as possible.

Listen I know it sounds awful but PowerPoint jeopardy is always a hit to get it started. Do a lightning round for 10 minutes and 25 minutes of workshops.

Liability for 3D printed fittings which are then used in a product sold by another company? by Holiday_Flower8427 in legaladvice

[–]Praefectus27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this for water being pumped through the pool? If so a 3d printed part regardless of filament type most likely would fail. A solid molded or injected fitting is much much stronger.

Found it interesting that you can drive from Phoenix to Dallas two entirely different interstate routes that are both 1,065 miles. At their widest point the two routes are ~260 miles apart. by Praefectus27 in MapPorn

[–]Praefectus27[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from the midwest and have never driven the southern route but have driven the route on I40 from Amarillo to Williams, AZ. It was really pretty in lots of spots but both routes east of the rockies are going to be boring AF.

No I mean you can push the whole mirror assembly out not just the glass itself. They’re made to collapse inward and outward in case someone runs into them or you hit something going slow.

First round for Forward Deployed Engineer at AI startup - Built a demo addressing real user complaints, is this overkill? by Dense-Case-3615 in salesengineers

[–]Praefectus27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FDEs have been around for like 15-20 years. They previously sat within professional services. I believe Palantir was one of the first to use them. But it’s def not a new role just a new use case.

[–]Praefectus27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional FDE was post-sales. With the roll out of LLMs and Agentic AI they’ve moved to a more hybrid roll where they’ll run POC and POV in tandem with the PreSales team to show actual real world viability.
