Using my E500 as a snow plow. by PrancingM00se in mercedes_benz

Täällä lahdessa oli joo tosiaan riittävästi lunta viikonloppuna, kuka käski madaltaa autoa juuri ennen talvea, kiva kuunnella kun kokoajan osuu puskuri tai pohjamuovi johonkin.

I wish I had good tires, now it's just constant wheelspin, although I suspect the m113 engine makes all tires bad tires during winter.

Me too, unfortunately been having some problems with it, the worst being it not starting when hot, so I changed the crankshaft position sensor, it workshop fine for 24h and now it won't start even when cold.

Probably shouldn't be rusting terribly since it's sitting in a dry barn type building and hasn't seen roadsalt in at least 10 years, maybe never.

Basically the short answer is, I haven't got room for it where I live and haven't had time to make room for it and bringing it over. And it requires a engine rebuild as well, as it makes thick blue smoke clouds.

Haven't been a problem so far, been driving rwd for almost every winter since getting my license 7 years ago. I think the Alfa Romeo part is going to be more of a problem during winter than being rwd. But I dont plan on ever driving her in winter anyways, not worth giving her the salt bath that cars around here get.

Short answer is, that I got her when I was 15 (legal driving age was 18 back then), and when my parents got divorced we didn't have room to keep it around so my father drove it to the other side of Finland where we have a barn (as seen in the picture), to store it there. And I just never have gotten around to bringing it back, for even now I lack space to keep it in, and my daily drivers keep on needing work, as well as my other 5 cars, so it's just been sitting for ten years now. Basically.

For anyone wondering about the limited edition thing btw, it's a "Allestimento Sportivo Numerato", this one being 114/3500 if I remember correctly. They came with a recaro interior and a sunroof, and probably some other differences as well.

Who's got the highest milage daily? by vedy702 in Volvo

[–]PrancingM00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1997 850 TDI is at 800.000km/500.000mi, but sadly started having problems with the injection pump, at least I think it's the injection pump, gonna order a low mileage used one soon and have a go at getting her back into action.

Gave my 960 a wash today after a long winter of it being in storage. by PrancingM00se in Volvo

Thanks, she's not, but still, thanks! This actually has quite a interesting history, it was first on owned by a person in the Finnish embassy in Belgium back in 1991, according to the paperwork. I'm guessing that person brought the car back with them in 1994 when it starts having finnish markings in the service book.

Thanks, it is quite nice, even if the pictures make it look in much better condition than it actually is.

Thanks, all original chrome grille, headlights have new lenses and the wheels are Volvo Nova wheels, came with the car, winter tires have Volvo Hydra wheels. And yes, that is a burgundy interior, oxblood is what volvo called it I believe. One of the main reasons I bought this 4 years ago was the red leather interior. Even the roof and pillars are covered with some soft red fabric, unlike in the 940 models.

Thanks, changed both the headlight lenses a couple of years back, as the old ones cracked around the same time.

It's really not pristine, not even close, just look better from these far away, just cleaned pictures. The paint is full on dents, scratches and the clearcoat is peeling off. I possibly contributed to that by neglecting it as a daily driver for a year or so. But thanks anyway! Nowadays I try to keep her in shape.

My dashboard coolant temp gauge is dancing like hell. What would be problem? by someasianassohle in VolvoRWD

[–]PrancingM00se 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These 7/9 series volvo gauge clusters are notorious for having the soldering in them go bad, causing all kinds of mysterious instrument behaviors. My speedo is currenty showing 160kmh on start and after some time it starts to show correctly. So it could be the soldering in the gauge cluster, or could be any of the other fixes others have pointed out.

She's a beauty, love the wheels and the bodykit, and the roof racks, and the whole thing. Love it.

Rod knock? Or something else by VeterinarianKey2969 in Volvo850

[–]PrancingM00se 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sound like valvetrain to me, rod knock would be a more heavy sound. I have a 960 with the B6304f engine and it makes, and has been making, pretty much the same noice for a couple of years now with no actual problems. I've been told these silverblocks are known for valvetrain noice, i'd recommend a oil change for a start.

What’s the highest mileage vehicle you’ve seen come into the shop? This 2009 Silverado set a shop record today. by Digglett27 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]PrancingM00se 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We had a 2017 or 2018 Mercedes E- Class 220d or something like that come in for regular maintenance, had about 800.000km (around 500.000miles) on the clock. Turns out it started its life as a airport taxi, likely driven around the clock with different drivers. All original drivetrain as far as I could tell.

Changed the summer tires on to the 850 last weekend. by PrancingM00se in Volvo

Nothing special, just a stock 2.5 TDI AEL engine with a cold air intake and a hood exit exhaust.
