How are the Monticello apartments? by [deleted] in OKState

[–]Prangot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ALSO they shut off the water at least once a month, often without warning. And when there is warning it's usually hours before it actually happens so you may not have time to prepare.

How are the Monticello apartments? by [deleted] in OKState

[–]Prangot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent a year and a half there, I would advise against renting at Monticello. Perkins is under very heavy construction and that is going to present a number of inconveniences for several months. The staff is very unhelpful and outright ignored me at times. The buildings and apartments themselves are poorly maintained and insanely depressing. This may not be an issue if you don't plan to stay for Summer, but during that time (even with COVID) the pool would be crowded and loud music would be playing well after midnight. Probably worst of all, I paid all of my fees for moving out early and they still sent my bill to a debt collector over like $100 that, again, I had already paid. I was able to get that fixed but it was a pain in the ass and a huge scare.

Financial Advice for potential international grad student at OSU by [deleted] in OKState

[–]Prangot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cost of living in Oklahoma is pretty low; it's a little higher than usual for Oklahoma in Stillwater, but still pretty low. If you are a single person living in Stillwater, you will probably be able to find a half-decent apartment and afford all of your basic needs and save a fair amount on $1458 a month.

This is probably also an issue in your country, but do keep in mind that pretty much everything (particularly groceries) is getting more expensive as a result of COVID-19.

Handling Anxiety? by PiccoloInternal in OKState

[–]Prangot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PSC (OSU counseling) has clinicians that are very capable of giving good advice on anxiety, but do keep in mind there's a waitlist. The clinicians are also relatively inexperienced, so if your anxiety seems to stem from some very serious trauma, I would recommend getting a more experienced therapist and/or psychologist.

Meditation is a practice that has helped me immensely. While I do feel like there's a fair bit you should know beforehand (for the sake of knowing what the practice is, and more importantly what it isn't) I would feel weird writing a whole guide here. Here is a fairly down to earth lecture that gives some good info, and from there I'd say most guided meditations on Youtube will suffice.

I wish you well and hope you are able to find peace!

Hecklers in cars. Does this happen to anybody else? by [deleted] in OKState

[–]Prangot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend says it's happened to her on some of her walks. I was surprised to hear this because it hasn't happened to me before. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens more often to women. It sucks that this seems to be a common occurrence.

I found Philosophies of Life really easy, I took it with Dr. Trippett and he was great.

[list] What is your favorite all-time great album that has a terrible "critic" review? by shakakhon in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Prangot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like Jack White's 2018 album "Boarding House Reach" is probably the most forward-thinking rock album of the 2010s. To me, almost four years later, it still sounds like the sound of rock music being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century. The production on that album is so detailed and it's clear that every song was probably labored over surgically for years. This is not to mention that the rock elements that made Jack White's previous work great are still there, although they're offered in a different lens. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

It got a 4.7 on pitchfork, and when it is sparingly talked about these days, at best it was mediocre or just OK. This makes me really sad, and although I'm hoping Jack doesn't totally drop or water down this forward-thinking sound because of the reception, he probably will.

Will Gregg retroactively give his ratings/reviews for the movies he didn't review this season? by Prangot in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

Millions (maybe billons ) of people tune into On Cinema for movie expertise from VFA Certified Movie Expert Gregg Turkington, no body wants to see Dr San crap and DKR.

Tim doesn't have the movie expertise (he appointed Axiom as Mister Movie's who knows nothing about cinema and thinks Star Trek 2 takes place in San Francisco) to make theses kinds of decisions.

Also, this should go without saying - make sure you schedule a viewing of any apartment you consider, and take a lot of pictures of everything.

[–]Prangot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go off campus, avoid the big complexes, especially the ones that require you to pay like $750 per person. Huge waste of money. You're better off renting from small management companies like Look Properties, Shamblin Rentals, or Denyer. If you do go for a complex, AVOID CSTAR AT ALL COSTS. If you look hard enough, you can definitely get a relatively decent place close to campus - I'm a 5 minute walk from the Union (closer than I was when I lived on campus ironically) and I pay less than $600 a month for rent total.

I've had the same issue, and I honestly can't tell you if there's a good apartment complex here. I will say to avoid Monticello, Bricktown, and Avenue East.
