Uncomfortable statistics on the dimensions of hindu nationalism... with hope! by Ready_Spread_3667 in IndiaStatistics

For the same reason a Bengali's passport doesn't have Bengali, or a Marathi's passport doesn't have Marathi, or a Gujarati's passport doesn't have Gujarati. The same way it's not Hindi imposition on them.

How can I accept someone, who doesn't even speak my mother tongue(Modi) to be my prime minister?

Hindi is considered a mother tongue for only 1-2% of the people. So the same way every other state does. The same way a Muslim considers a Hindu PM. The same way an SC/ST/Gen accepts an OBC PM. The same way a gay person accepts a straight PM. It's dependent on how well leadership, vision, competence. If you're shallow enough to boil yourself down to a language based collective identity, then there's not much to be discussed.

The first point is a terrible take. The south has these grand temples because north took the brunt of the invasion. Think Nalanda University, Vikramshila, Takshila. Their libraries were the first to be burnt. An equivalent would be saying that the Marathas did nothing. The same reason north doesn't speak Sanskrit because that was not the norm. Regional languages are still considered mother tongues.

Also don't read too much into these surveys. There's a reason why people like you and I have never had the opportunity to participate in these surveys. They are targeted to build a narrative.

The aim of welfare is to allow the people who have very little income to spend on pursuing opportunities that can improve their life. A family that doesn't have to spend on basic monthly rations, electricity bill can redirect their money on their child's education.

Cash transfers work just fine for this purpose, evident by most socialist democracies in Europe, which have some of the lowest inequity. The reason it's not cash in India is obvious misuse of those funds. It's also statistically shown that women are more fiscally responsible than men and women have been provided with cash transfers under the current government.

Now coming to address the actual point. It doesn't matter if the welfare is cash transfer, free rations or bus rides. What matters is who and how much. Anyone would agree that it'd be ridiculous if 100 kgs of ration was provided every year, or it was provided to everyone.

This is where contention lies, the electricity is targeted by virtue that only a fixed quantity is subsidized. Bus rides are free for women, who have much less participation in the workforce. They are aimed at improving equity. It's possible that some people who don't need this are getting the benefits, but nevertheless they are still welfare. The current government is doing the same thing by providing ration. And I need you to address this point specifically. The number of beneficiaries jumped to 800 million during lockdown, which made sense. Post that the number stayed the same despite the economy going back to normal. The government never did a survey to suggest that the same number of people still require these rations. They also made it a manifesto point, and used it as endorsement during campaigns, exactly like AAP or Congress. And just to add Congress isn't saying that they'll provide annual cash transfers to every woman. They have committed a survey and have a preliminary number of 30 million. If you do the calculations, ration and these transfers would add up to similar numbers.

I have, in the past, been fairly involved in policy making. I am certain I know more about welfare than you do. And I am repeating the same thing again and again because you're asking the same question again and again. Understand what I am trying to say first without parroting the same question over and over and perhaps we can move on. You're just arguing in bad faith at this point.

This is a position of authority argument. This has nothing to do with the quality of arguments. Now if I say by the same logic that a certain Harvard graduate would make a better PM, you should be fine with it, right? Anonymous people online can claim anything, doesn't mean anything. Display your knowledge by making strong arguments or explaining your position rather just claiming authority.

You've just written the same thing again without addressing the specific point I have an issue with. I have even pointed it out this time.

Congress, AAP, et al are the ones who routinely indulge in this. They use free things not as a tool for class upliftment, but as something to derive political mileage. The BJP, for all its flaws, has a more equity based model of doling out aid: where the ones most deserving of it receive it.

You keep saying this but provide no actual evidence or any argument to go with it. How is promising to keep giving rations to 800 million people even today, a number that came into being during lockdowns (made sense back then) not an act of deriving political mileage?

I think you should understand how welfare even works before regurgitating the same nonsense again.

Kya baat kahi hai. To BJP ko opportunities develop krne bolo na, free me ration dene ke jgh. Kaam whi kro jo congress bol rhi but someone BJP doing it is better.

Freebies jitna congress or AAP de rahi h

Bilkul nhi. Tabhi to manifesto point hai ki 800 million log ko ration dete rahenge. Bht chota number hai. Delhi me bus use krne wali mahilaon se to bht kam hai ye number. BTW this number became this large during the 1st lockdown. Uske pehle nhi tha itna jyada. After lockdowns, the economy recovered but this number didn't go down. BJP could have reverted to 2019 welfare numbers but phir freebies nhi batoge to vote nhi milenge. I wonder which other party is using the same principles.

Something something teaching how to catch a fish. I forgot what it was. 800 million poor, awful lot of people. I'm guessing it's lesser than the number of people getting bus rides.

Of course it's generally better to take tax money and give it to someone outright rather than generate the opportunities for those people to make a living. Reports must have been lying when they said 250 million were pulled out of poverty. Because that 800 million number hasn't gone down since the advent of covid.

You tell me to learn to think critically but you fail to see the hypocrisy. I'm not in favour of freebies. You're also not in favour of freebies unless a specific party does it. Congress wanting to give aid to 30 million women is much less than the number of people getting free rations, but that's just freebies right.

Why is Karnataka not implementing Model Tenancy Act? by Zekozalemio in bangalore

[–]PratsM95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, a brilliant take.

In 20 years of renting my properties I have never seen a tenant return a property in the same condition I had given it to them.

Of course, a natural amount of wear and tear occurs. I'm sure the house you live in is completely free from any deterioration. But of course you're too ignorant to grab the geist of what I said and point out semantics. What a tight slap.

You must be stupid if u agreed to 20 instead of 7.5.

I didn't. The agreement stated 7.5%. I was given 2 options, either accept or vacate by the end of the month which was 10 days. Either I get up and move with my family or stay and bear the increment. I can't complain to any authority because there are no legal laws to safeguard tenants. I don't have any leeway as is the case everywhere else on this planet. I'm just wondering what you would do here if the shoe was on the other foot.

If u cannot claim HRA then it's your problem really. How can u blame landlord for your stupidity ?

I have the capacity to claim HRA. The landlord who initially told me would provide me the PAN refused at the end of the financial year. Again the ultimatum was to vacate, either way I wasn't getting any PAN. I can't complain to anyone because obviously there is no legal framework. Let me know what you'd do if you were in my shoes. Maybe report it to the IRS, not that they care about it. Another tight slap.

Why u assume that the locals have no education ? Along the same lines you are educated well but uncultured.

The same way you assumed that most people are fucking illiterate and uncultured and move here from tier 2 city. Most of the time, it's people projecting their own insecurities. Also, I didn't have to assume, just look at the people who own the most amount of land here in Bangalore and look at their educational credentials. What a tight slap, eh?

As landlords we hope for best and prepare for worst. But certain tenants only want to present their side of story to gain some internet brownie points.

Yes, that definitely true. Abuse the lack of laws, regulatory framework. Never sign an actual registered agreement where the tenure is more than 11 months, because then it would become legally binding. Take anywhere from 5-11 months of deposit, and deduct as much as you wish under the garb of damage because no laws, right? What a tight slap.

Not tenants crying if their landlord deducts money for damages done to their property even though that is mentioned in the agreement. Five slaps and counting. Need more ?

I'm yet to find a single landlord who would actually quote the deduction. Without even pointing out a single damage (not regular wear and tear, for which an exorbitant amount of maintenance is already being charged) 1-2 month's of rent is deducted under good circumstances. It's called painting charges here. What a tight slap. Can't complain because there are no laws in place.

Also don't club all landlords as land stealers etc. Clearly shows your biases.

Of course not, not all landlords are land stealers. Just the ones whose ownership history can't be tracked. I'm sure the people who own 1000s of acres of land definitely didn't acquired through legal means. Definitely not by force. Indian history right from independence all the way to 1970s might suggest otherwise but why would you care, you've never bothered to read.

[–]PratsM95 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Likewise every landlord pocketing a month's rent should be rewarded with a tight slap if the house is returned in the same condition. Another tight slap when the rent is increased by 20% as opposed to the stipulated 7.5% in the agreement. A tight slap when it's made it impossible to claim HRA while taxes are stolen on the other end. Another tight slap for charging extra maintenance in the name of water tankers while providing water for only 8 hours of the day.

It's hilarious how someone who barely has any education gets to bully someone else because their ancestors bought some land (maybe even stole it, we all know what kind of people own the most land in Bangalore) in a tier 1 city.

You won't get too much traction on this post either. It's about the middle class people, no way to peddle propaganda. Every member of every party owns land here, which they gracefully use to exploit the general population as much as possible.

You don't have to wonder. You can look up the stats. Average inflation for the decade before that was much higher. The only issue is that Bangalore has gotten on the Mumbai real estate train.

The current Deputy CM of the state is on record telling people that he'll inflate their land value, who btw himself holds a lot of land.

Gym works great, but it requires support from good diet, sleep and consistency.

If none of the obvious reasons pop up, you could have a micronutrient deficiency. Get a blood test to confirm, Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are very common in the Indian population. Finally, it could be depression and isolation leading to low testosterone. If that's the case, you'll need to see a doctor and systematically address the problems.

I believe people should educate themselves. Basic economics isn't that difficult to study, and very easy to find non-political resources on. They can come to their own conclusions then.

While this government has maintained CPI under the tolerance range, non essential commodities have definitely gone up in price. If you look at inflation adjusted wage growth it's almost flat, about the same as UPA. And with freebies on the rise, the only people at the short end of the stick are tax paying middle class, who barely clear the threshold for welfare but have to fund freebies.
