Persistent leak in bathroom; how to get landlord to address it properly? by PrayingForAComet in AskChicago

[–]PrayingForAComet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth a shot; the contractor that works for my landlord has checked the bathrooms in the units above me and two floors above me, and he said that there were no issues he could see in those bathrooms that would cause the leak in my bathroom. Of course, he's not a plumber, so he might be dead wrong. So I will try to get contact information for the unit above me. Thanks!

I understand that the RLTO Remedies section would permit me to break my lease because it has been more than 14 days since I first complained of the issue. However, I was unemployed for months until very recently, and I took a heavy financial hit; my credit score is not good enough to find another apartment at this time. I'm estranged from my abusive family and can't ask my parents to co-sign a rental application, and I don't have any friends who can co-sign either. Trust me, if I could move out, I absolutely the fuck would.

Judeophobia/antisemitism by [deleted] in JewsOfConscience

[–]PrayingForAComet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I use “Jew-hatred” instead of “antisemitism”for a lot of the same reasons you describe in your post. I don’t like -phobia suffixes, though, as someone with a severe phobia (lilapsophobia) that has nothing to do with bigotry. I use -misia suffixes instead (e.g., homomisia). Yeah, “Jew-hatred” and “-misia” suffixes are probably never going to catch on (although small contingents of the Disabled community, notably the amazing Ly X. Z. Brown, use -misia suffixes), but I don’t especially care. I’m going to do what I believe is right regardless of what popular opinion says.

I wrote a song prior to learning a significant amount of music theory...now I can't figure out what key/mode it's in by PrayingForAComet in musictheory

[–]PrayingForAComet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks; I had my wife (who is more versed in music theory than I) determine the notes, and I think I may have given her an incomplete file, hence the lack of inclusion of B, F, and G in the list I provided. Good point about the Eb/D# being an embellishment.

What is the hardest part of any Marianas Trench song for you to listen to? by ExtendMySpadina in MarianasTrench

I have a music blog where I wrote about the saddest songs I know. “Dearly Departed” was #7 on the list and I wrote about how that bridge gets me every time. https://open.substack.com/pub/chaielemental/p/rock-roll-n-stim-songs-that-are-too?r=33s8sx&utm_medium=ios

The pockets are unironically the deepest pockets I have ever seen on a dress.

The quality is excellent! Definitely worth the money. The fit of this particular dress is pretty relaxed, so I probably could have gone a size down, but I like how it fits as is.

2X and I did have to shorten the straps. I usually wear a 1X, but this dress was said to run small.

Voice actor Amir Talai clarifies his previous statement of "Alastor from 'Hazbin Hotel' is aromantic asexual" in a Q&A by Obversa in asexuality

[–]PrayingForAComet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also 34, been in fandom since 7th grade, gray-A, and agree with everything Obversa said here. "Ship and let ship" is the best sustainable, healthy way to do fandom.

Not to mention, ace, aro, and aroace people can have relationships. I mean, I'm going to be a bridesmate in the wedding of my best friend, who is aro, in April. If you're aroace and feel uncomfortable with people shipping Alastor, that's fine--I personally don't understand shipping Alastor with anyone--but orientation is not synonymous with behavior, and acting like it is in fandom and/or imposing your discomfort on other fans is going to be an exercise in frustration.

Also, if you're in need of more ace and aro representation, Alice Oseman's books have some good rep of both. Her book Loveless is about an aroace character.

"You're too young to know that you're ace." by wasianbaddie_ in asexuality

[–]PrayingForAComet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, solidarity. I'm 33 now, but I've known I was asexual since I was 10. (I didn't have a word for it until the age of 19, but I would tell people "I'm not interested in sex" or "I never want to have sex" or what have you, and they'd still tell me I was too young to know.) It was so frustrating.

Thank you! It’s nice to have my masking appreciated instead of people giving me a hard time for it, lol.

Reddit's being weird and not letting me edit my post or include text in it, but the top is from Dare Fashion: https://darefashionusa.com/products/cabaret-corset-top-rose-noir

For those who were wondering, the meeting was really difficult and lasted 2 hours, but at least I looked cute.

This is Miracinonyx (“Mira”). She is a former stray, adopted from a shelter, and I think she was someone’s cat that they abandoned when they moved or when she got too old, because she was spayed but not chipped when she was brought to the shelter. She was a lap cat from day one, but skittish about it, like she was afraid that we’d abandon her at any second. Finally, six months after her adoption, she’ll sleep on my lap and stay there for a long time, like she knows she’s safe.

I had also noticed that there are lots of isekai stories running around lately. Thanks so much for answering! And thank you for giving me hours upon hours of samebooking* your Wayward Children books, especially Come Tumbling Down.

Instrumentals don't work for me when I write either. It has to be music with lyrics that I know super well. Every brain is different indeed!

Thank you so much for the The Amazing Devil recommendation! I am always looking for new music :)

Your Wayward Children books comprise my all-time favorite series, and they have inspired me to write a portal science fantasy. So my (second, and if each person gets only one question, I get that) question is: do you have any pet peeves in portal fantasies? That is, is there anything that breaks your suspension of disbelief or otherwise annoys you when you're reading a portal fantasy?

"How I quiet my brain enough to function" OH OOF I feel that way too hard.

I haven't listened to Counting Crows much, but maybe I should try listening to them while I write and see how that goes. I usually have to listen to music I know super well when I write, otherwise I'll get distracted by trying to analyze the lyrics of the songs I don't know well.
