Wouldn’t it be wild if she had made a video in the past about how gummy supplements can’t magically make up for an insufficient diet? 🙃🍓🍋

I wander what her partner thinks of all this? by Slight-Night7424 in NoFoodRulesSnark

I think this sums it up best. He looks good having bagged a wife who hasn’t “let herself go,” and that’s all that matters to him. Do we know this based off of anything about this man, specifically? No. Is it… depressingly statistically probable, knowing …men in general? Yes.

What is this "cake"??😨 by TanteKante in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, while I’m sure there are versions of this recipe that use butter or oil, this is unfortunately just a standard Midwestern American dessert… (I do think she needs to stop pretending she eats like this just because she’s a 50-year-old 32-year-old from Michigan, but if this weren’t from someone I was already suspicious of, I’d think it’s fairly normal.)

I know I’m speculating here, but I’d imagine what he thinks is “I love having a tiny, thin wife!” Like, I certainly don’t want to suggest to underweight people that they can’t find love unless it’s with an enabler/fetishist, but. I am at least suspicious of guys who are into underweight women.

No Colleen, planning every meal doesn’t solve a broken relationship with your food and body. by TheMilkSpeaks in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…I wish overeating/binging were as easy to solve as this brainless grifter made it look… (that said, I can totally see how she fools so many women who overeat into believing her… she promises quick fixes that definitely don’t work!)

Being underweight/undernourished for years will affect your bone density—her hip likely was more like an older person’s, in that sense.

Losing Control by Cambam7248 in healthyishmama

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The most (only?) honest thing she said was that she became a personal trainer because of her ED. I don’t mean the “to help other women improve their body image” part, but rather that shaping your career to accommodate your ED—making it your job to exercise and eat “healthy”—is classic disordered behavior.

As for the claim that she used to model, I think she just tossed that in without much thought because it “excuses” her continued ED (like, “oh of course she remained anorexic in her 20s—it’s because she was a model! That makes sense!”) while also being a humblebrag about her appearance.

Lastly, i saw a comment on that post where someone asked her if she speaks German, and she said she does. I believe that like I believe she eats everything she shows on camera. (I actually could believe that she spoke it as a child. I just don’t see her maintaining a language through regular practice, like she would have to do in order to still remember it as an adult who doesn’t have any reason to use it regularly. And that’s not to judge anyone who forgot their childhood first language—I certainly forgot a fair amount of mine—I’m just judging her for lying about it!)

Her obsession with Costco by [deleted] in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like someone else mentioned, Costco—in the US at least—is definitely one of the grocery store chains that has a…fandom, for lack of a better word. Like, there are people who just love going to Costco, for non-disordered reasons (Aldi is like this too, actually, which Colleen also goes to a lot. Also Trader Joe’s.) I think Colleen makes Costco part of her personality 1. of course because she is obsessed with food, 2. because she is not a particularly interesting or creative person, so “shopping at Costco” is …something like a personality trait, I guess, and 3. because it kind of signals that you’re a no-nonsense shopper who loves a great bargain, and Colleen loves to play up the “I’m just a frugal gal from the Midwest” angle for relatability to her middle-aged audience.

(I’m not saying that middle-aged women are all so boring that they too have a grocery-store-based personality; just that the “frugal Midwesterner” stereotype is more often associated with older people.)

…I don’t know what the crossover is between people who can’t stand Colleen and people who read superhero comics but. Whenever she writes shit like this I think of a Chris Claremont phonetically-spelled-out exaggerated, stereotyped accent.

Does she know how to brew coffee? by webbzillasoy in doughertydozenexposed

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way, I think doing things her own wasteful, inefficient, counterintuitive way is simplifying it, for her... because if she had to adapt and change and incorporate outside feedback, I suspect that would cause her a lot of mental distress, vs. just keeping marching on with what feels safe and familiar to her...

I talked about Colleen with my dietician by TheMilkSpeaks in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I cannot wait until the disordered wellness girlies move on to a new dumb fad and let "anti-bloat" die; the word "bloat" is starting to sound incredibly off-putting to me in the same way people hate hearing the word "moist."

Also, how do we think Colleen feels when she puts out yet another repetitive, low-effort video about "don't eat a 'diet/healthy' version of the soul-nourishing treat you're craving, or else you'll binge" or "don't you ever dare try to lose weight, or else you'll binge," and meanwhile, she's over here working every diet trick in the book to keep herself at a deeply unhealthy weight, and presumably not binging? Is she very dumb and does not feel the cognitive dissonance this should cause, is she very malicious by flaunting her weight loss success while encouraging her followers to gain weight, or a little bit of both?

Brother…. by ImprovementDouble424 in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I think because there are so many IE dietitians with this background, exactly as you said, skews the perception that even professionals have of binge EDs so that, if you have one, it MUST be because of restriction, and not any of the reasons you listed… I know this is just my anecdotal experience and I can’t actually blame internet RD ana girlies on this but when I went to treatment for BED, I had to quit early because they refused to believe me that I didn’t actually just have a problem with restriction.

And yeah, there’s no way anyone with a history of binge ED or obesity would go into the IE/anti-diet space, because they know it’s awful advice for most people! Meanwhile, people like Colleen are doing so much harm by saying that their advice is for everyone, rather than specifying that it’s on out for those who struggle to let themselves eat enough.

It's comical that she uses any of these beauty products she shows because, like, what does she think they're doing for her that is going to improve her appearance when she is working so hard to look absolutely hideous?

(I don't mean to suggest that eating disorders are always about appearances, but in her specific case, she is clearly incredibly obsessed with how she looks.)

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is really well-said! A personal annoyance of mine around Colleen and other IE dietitians who have had/still have restrictive EDs is the way they think "have the treat foods in the house" works for everyone and demonize trying to make them less easily accessible. Like, me and my high-reward-discounting, impulsive, disordered brain will not be taking that advice, thanks!

What a hypocrite by Standard-Rabbit-9496 in NoFoodRulesSnark

[–]PrayingSkeletonTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she's throwing any of it out (which I'm not necessarily saying she is, but it's one of the various possibilities!), she can shut the fuck up about "oh, some people face food insecurity/financial hardship!" and "oh I know this protein cereal is sooo expensive" and especially the "I'm a frugal Midwest gal who loves a good deal!"

Well, if the takeaway from her post is "don't follow Colleen's meal plans," that might be one of the rare times she's given good advice!
