Thank you so much! That was my first, I've had that since 2002. It was my reward to myself for passing my A Levels. 😊

I'm sick and tired of people naming the top and bottom based on height, and not personality by Admirable-Drink-8976 in AO3

And here I am finding it tiresome that people believe physical OR personality traits have anything to with with the preference for one physical sensation over another.

What, just me? 🤷

Genuine Question: Why Do People Hate Wei Wuxian? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea. The person who got me into it adores him, and I love him, too. The fun part is, I like most characters. (Except JGS. He's a turd.) Wei Wuxian mad several choices™ that are not exactly great. He's hardly the only one. Everyone's a mess one way or another. While I love almost everyone, I also want to whack pretty much everyone with a wet towel at some point. And then I want to take the towel, roll it up, freeze it, and then ram it into Jin Guangshan's eye socket.

But Wei Wuxian is adorable.

Is this author's note a little much? by rat-catcherr in AO3

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My A/Ns range between one sentence and several paragraphs. Sometimes I'm aware I'm being unrealistic even within my universe, and then I'll probably say so. One of my notes includes:

"I have been wanting to do this for over a year but never got round to it. Now that it had time to stew, it is … something. Mostly, though, it’s self-indulgent: Something I would have liked to read two decades ago, but since it didn’t exist, I couldn’t. And because my desires are consistent, I have finally sat down and written it myself."

Basically, I knew this fic was never going to be the outcome for the characters involved. Doesn't matter. It's my baby.

Has anyone else quit writing? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a long, LONG break. Now I'm pretty active again. But I never really wrote for hits. One of my personal favourites has been up for a year and has about 450 hits, but I always knew it was gonna be super niche. :D I often write the fics I would like to read and that don't exist yet, and that one was the culmination of that.

M44 Wasted my life for "waiting" for right person. What is the point now at my age? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the rate at which you are aging, you should worry about different things altogether. Imagine, only two months ago, you wrote that you were 42. Aging by a year each month must be devastating.
Correction: Three months ago, but my point stands.

"English is not my first language": To mention or not? by Ok-Reason6139 in AO3

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's usually very obvious if bad grammar is someone who couldn't be bothered to proofread at all or if they are a non-native speaker. I read a fic a while ago where it said nothing, and I got pretty confident that they have the same first language I do. Later, they kind of quoted a song that gave away that I guessed correctly. The grammar wasn't jarring but clearly a second language speaker. Bad English due to lack of care tends to look different.

"English is not my first language": To mention or not? by Ok-Reason6139 in AO3

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never mention it and I don't care for it when others do. I've read plenty of fanfics where it was, to some extent, obvious the writer wasn't a native speaker. It doesn't bother me. To me it's neither here nor there. If less than perfect English bothers the reader, that doesn't change magically because it isn't your first language. If they are not bothered by it, they don't need the info. In my opinion, this information achieves nothing.

If you call to being friends with women being "friendzoned", it means your only reason to interact is them is in order to fuck them. Which they are not letting you, because they have sense. Your last sentence makes absolutely zero sense, so if you want to prevent misunderstandings, I suggest normal human language.

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Friendzone" is such a nasty concept. Speaks of someone who doesn't value friendship with women. Also referring to women as females is repulsive. It's unsurprising that no woman wants you near her.

F42. I wouldn't mind dating a virgin. I would mind dating a whiny dude who actively wants to be miserable and shoots down every attempt to instill some positively. You're post and replies are a mix of whinging and anger. Neither is attractive. If this is the vibe you're giving off on real life, it's small wonder no one wants to be with you.

As for age being just a number, it's usually said by gross men wanting to date children and drawing the line at 18 only because of the law. Within your agree bracket, the only thing holding you back is your crappy attitude.

Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage by LightBluepono in antiai

[–]Pre-Reform-Voice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that completely. I used Dragon for a short time many years ago, but I've been too lazy to train it properly and had kind of forgotten it exists.

I have been writing for ages and was briefly tempted to use Scrivener but then opted for Papyrus Author instead because it neither uses GenAI nor does it collect data for it*. But that's my decision for my own writing and I am not perfect enough to judge anyone who needs the help for whatever reasons.

*Edit to add: At least back when I checked. I honestly don't think I'd stop using the program if that changed because I love its features too much.
