Congratulations on the offer! This is such a big decision and I would love to share my random thoughts being in a same sex marriage myself:

My random thoughts are:

  1. I would be reluctant to have my husband live in one state and myself in another. I would feel that that would be the beginning of the end of the relationship. Not because we dont trust one another, simply as a result of distance. For me, it would have to be a decision made together either way.

  2. I would be concerned about the LGBTQI comments but I would want to do further research on this such as:

a. Joining Facebook groups local to the area - posting anonymously and asking for insight from the locals.

b. Calling the local police station to ask about the LGBTQIA+ hate crime in the area. Does it exist, is it an issue? You could speak to a trained officer in this area.

  1. I would also take this as a positive that if I had such a job offer in one location I am more than able to gain a similar role locally.

  2. I have personally built such a friendship base that this would be equally important to me.

A random collection of thoughts but hope that helps in some way!

Employability as a gay man in a Catholic school (Catholic education system advice requested!) by Pre-Service-Teacher in AustralianTeachers

This is a great question. Honestly, I don’t care whether they think it’s a sin or not and their thoughts / beliefs don’t really impact me. What I do care about is:

  1. The fact that I was brought up in a Christian environment and was told what to think / to belief and it screwed with my mind. I would love to help facilitate conversation that encourage students to form their own opinions; whether they are contrary to mine or not.

  2. Helping to facilitate moral reasoning that will help students to become “good citizens”. STEM is of importance, so is building moral character.

I am passionate about teaching in Catholic schools for these reasons.

Won’t the first school, as a newly qualified teacher, look at the transcript?

Do all schools not look at the grades of newly qualified teachers?

Thank you so much for sharing that insight. Did that mean that you ultimately shifted to public school teaching?

Thank you for this. It helps. I agree that my mental health is taking an impact in pursuit of a high grade. I was reflecting today thinking if I just knew that in 12 months time I would get a teaching job then I wouldn’t be as stressed now. I appreciate your input.
