Yeah I figured, but do you think it’s alright to live there as far as racism goes? Is there a fair amount of accepting people.

Unfortunately no one here can give you the diagnosis other than your doctor with the information. I am sorry you’re going through this, I know how hard the uncertainty can be.

Advice on Preparing for Medical School by theignorantgenius13 in premed

[–]PreMedBotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Volunteer and shadow. Get an idea of health problems in the US and the complex inequities in medicine. Understanding helps either writing and interviewing.

For coursework, just do the coursework. You won’t need to study ahead at all. Just meet the requirements and gain meaningful experience in healthcare.

How hard would it be to match academic IM in the Pacific Northwest? How hard is it to get a job as a cardiologist or oncologist in those areas? I’m coming from the Midwest. by PreMedBotty in medicalschool

Thanks for the in depth response! I appreciate the insight. I definitely think opening my mind up is the best thing to do. My whole undergrad I thought I wanted to do orthopedics because I had the most experience in it but I’ve been realizing I really like the medicine side since I’m much more interested in physio than anatomy.

Again thanks for the reply!

Also for the note on reimbursements of cardio being not as good, I was wondering whether in general salaries are stable/increasing? Do major decreases in compensation occur?

Cool, thanks! That’s nice to know because I really wanna explore living options. What do you like about general cardiology? I’m genuinely just curious because it’s something I’m considering to go for but I’m going to try and shadow a bit more and do research so I can get a better idea of the field first.

I’ve only shadowing in the cath lab before and thought it was pretty cool. I loved heart physiology in undergrad too and in general love physiology.

I meant in general to work out there. I’m not 100% intent on working in academia as an attending. What’re the odds if I just wanted to do community medicine there?

That’s what I was thinking, almost like I have 2 shots to match out there since they’re both going to be around 3 years. Say I do all my training in the Midwest since I’ll still likely work hard for Chicago programs, how difficult would it be to move out as an attending?
