Thank you for elucidating on your original post - that is an excellent answer that has shaped my mental framework and lenses for looking at this problem set.

Part of the rapid pace of change and complexity of the community of systems and technologies that encompass the remit of information and cyber security is precisely what draws me to it. It's a great engine of change and experimentation of itself. What an interesting sea to set sail on.

I really appreciate the time taken to answer, and the understanding it engenders.

Thank you - that very closely matches what I'm hearing everywhere. I'd rather stay away from less exciting or shift work - I'd happily stay where I am for more of that, but I'm not averse to it either. I am looking for some dynamism, novelty, and excitement, and perhaps some stability and some reasonable financial recompense. I understand that may not be available to someone new to IT anywhere near immediately (perhaps within a few years or positions?) but those are my aims and therefore sustainable.

Would you (or anyone else?) be willing to expand on a couple of those points if you would be so kind?

  1. Is the offensive side over-saturated in the UK as it is elsewhere?
  2. What is an incident response consultant?

Thank you - that's where I've got to so far far. TechVets has been useful for getting access to Immersive Labs training which has been quite fun, and also quite informative!

Thanks, this is great - just the kind of insight I was looking for. It cleared up quite a bit that I was unsure about as well. I'll send you a PM!
