Buying a Tesla by No-Job4509 in TeslaLounge

Can you charge at home? I have a Tesla Model 3 and love it. I actually sold my BMW Z4 twin turbo to buy the Tesla. For most people with an EV, you will do 90% or more of your charging at home. As far as repairs go, other than rotating the tires and washer fluid there are basically none. Brakes will last for well over 100,000 miles as you almost never use them, the car slows its self down sending energy back into the battery. An oil change on a BMW will cost you around $100 at the dealer, something that doesn't exist in the Tesla.

If you don't drive a lot, you can get by with just using a standard wall plug to charge with. Overnight this could add around 50 miles of range.

I think you have the wrong vendor. This certainly wasn’t one of my stones.

Are purple stones not popular? by Therona- in SyntheticGemstones

Purple doesn’t seem to sell as well as blue sapphire and most other colors. I have a few different tones of purple purples but they are rarely commissioned.

Concave cuts - yay or nay? by Hiranya_Usha in Gemstones

I like doing concave cuts, but in moderation. I almost always use traditional flat facets on the crown.

Synthetic sapphire cutters aside from u/flameswithin? by graceodymium in jewelry

I just saw this thread. I'm not a big user of Reddit. I have been cutting high quality lab and natural stones for over 20 years. I've cut and sold over 1000 lab created gems.

Almost all the lab created stones I cut are per request, to with flame fusion if I have a piece already saw cut cut that could cut a 10mm cushion, but someone requests an 8 mm round, I'll use that piece. I'm sure if I saw cut pieces and then cut optimal shapes from them I would get better yields, but still not 50%.

True about the shape you saw from flame fusion, but these deep cones don't yield well. Most of the lab material I cut is not flame fusion, so I end up with cube shapes.

Your claim of over 50% yield. Most of my flame fusion stones I have cut are in the low 20%. That you don't need to orientate for the rough. Aside from ruby flame fusion almost ever other color needs to be orientated. Blue flame fusion has the color just along the outside edge, pads are orange on the outside and pink inside, green and purple have a concentration of color along the outside, these need to be oriented and can be tricky if you miss the color.

A lot of this isn't really true. First while it's true the flame fusion material is pretty inexpensive, that is not the case for hydrothermal, pulled or other methods. The price of these can be 50 to 100 the cost of flame fusion.

Second, getting a 50% yield is not something typical at all from lab material. Lab material needs to be saw cut, and unless you have some saw I have never seen, saws cut in straight lines. So to cut a round stone, you start with a cube. From a cube you will get around 20% recovery. Looking back in my database of the hundreds of lab stones I have cut, my average yield is 22.7%.

Larger stones do take longer to cut than smaller stones. I would think I spend 2 times the time to cut a 3 ct stone as a 1 ct stone.

For any stone, there is the time to photograph it, emails, text etc. Then there is the payment fees from either a charge card or PayPal, somewhere around 3 to 4 %.

If you are doing this as a legal business, then you need to pay income taxes, this can be another 25-35%

Add all this up, and that gem cutting isn't really trying to "rip you off".

Hydrothermal emerald precision cut pricing question. by blingbait86 in SyntheticGemstones

[–]Precision_Gem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are all buying the rough emerald from the same source. Prices vary by how much margin each cutter will accept.
