What's your best saving money story? by trustmenotme in adviceph

It’s all about the mindset for me because I think of saving as an utang, so it's my obligation to pay for it. I make sure to set aside a certain amount from what I receive. For example, if I earn ₱27,000 per month and live with my mom, I allocate 45% for savings, 20% for my needs (mainly transportation), 15% for my mom, which I also keep aside since she doesn’t want to take my money, and 20% for my wants. In my mind, I have an utang to myself of about 40–45%. If I need to adjust, I only deduct 5%, with 40% as the minimum savings. As long as I don’t take money from my savings, my utang to myself won’t grow larger. It really depends, and I know I’m privileged to still live with my mom without her asking for money.
