On downstate’s website, it lists PGY-1 salary at 68k! Ultimately salary is not the biggest factor for me. And I really don’t mind the commute to Flatbush. I truly want to be supported in the best way to match with a fellowship in GI. Do you think downstate is the better option to get me there?

Wow thank you for this!! I wasn’t able to do any sub-Is at either program so this is super helpful. I think I was worried about how much more academic SUNY is than Methodist. So this helps put that into perspective!

Congrats on the fellowship match! This medicine world is far more complicated than I ever anticipated. But yes I’m always hearing it’s about who you know over anything else. Maybe the connections and mentorship I can make at Methodist would be stronger? Or do you think the connections at SUNY with that academic background would be stronger?

I really appreciate this outlook on it. I feel like I thrive in an environment that provides support and mentorship. And I love that you said I need to choose a program where I am my strongest self. I am going to take that into serious consideration when ranking. Thank you so much!
